It's nearly summertime in Okinawa, and I'm tired of the typics dude-guy Sanuks, Reefs, etc... Any recommendations for a nice, STURDY, good-looking pair of flops??? If I can't find any, I'm getting Birkenstocks

Rainbows, leather seem to last a little longer than hemp. Double sole gives you a little more instep support.

Those are good looking, but I am thinking something slightly less "sleek" I guess. Abercrombie used to have some really nice ones... I'm continuing the hunt for a few more weeks, and then if I'm not fulfilled, I will jump on these:

Man I hate flip flops. Gym shower, beach, washing my car, walking to my hot tub. That's it for flippers.

I slightly feel you... But, I got this whole subtropical island thing goin on lol.
Nah, I learned to love flops in the Army. When you wear combat boots for 12ish hours at a time for 5days a week, you learn to hate footwear, at least somewhat

"I bought a pair of Birkenstocks and I'm really disappointed," said no one, ever.

i think chacos and keen make the most comfortable sandals and flips, though it takes some looking around to get decent looking pairs from either makers

@untucked, I've had really good luck with OluKai flip-flops the past few years. I'm guessing a good pair is just about as indispensable here in Florida as it is for you "over there".

It's been so long it feels since hot weather that I feel like I'm forgetting something else I wear.

You do realise those veg tan Birkenstocks are not an alternative to flip flops and that you're going to end up with both. (I hope you don't mind me deducing that from your posting history on here.)
They're going to look pretty amazing in a few years time, depending. They're also going to be unbelievably comfortable.

The Birks wouldn't "replace" flops, but they will look a lot better as I wear my jawnz through the summer. If I can't find NICE flops for regular and often wear, I'll get the Birks and just keep my Sanuks for days that I want to let my lil piggies breathe

Shorts I only have flat front shorts no cargos etc. Allen Edmonds Castine loafers (driving mocs) Sperry boat shoes one brown one grey Acorn suede jack Purcells Converse all stars in gray PF flyers in navy Sperry slip on sneakers kinda beach feel. I just can't do flip flops out. Your feet get dirty, sweaty. It grosses me out. Like go to a mall or resturant in the summer. Check out how gross dudes feet get. Feet are nasty.

Ha, feet can be scary. I wash mine though. Unless I'm really feeling combative I do put shoes on to fly.
I can't do no show socks, that just seems silly. Maybe it's from cycling where tall socks are cool or rock climbing where socks are verboten. I love ugly/bright socks and wear Chucks if shoes are required. I've tried to get into driving shoes but havent been able to. AE doesn't line theirs and I end up a full size under my normal AE size and they still feel stretched out all to hell a month after buying them. The navy OSB beef rolls are calling my name, even though I really don't think I'd wear them often.
Untucked, I wore Sanuks for about the last five years and made the switch to Rainbow about six months ago, they're much better made, but don't offer as many color choices.

Don't worry, my ego and self respect are quite intact, even in shorts.
Im guessing me bringing up spandex, mesh base layers and arm screens really won't go over well with you guys? I rarely find myself at the country club or shopping for Bentleys and Pinot Noir vinyards. Just be glad I change out of my cycling clothes when I'm off the bike.

Like you don't wear shorts at all?

it's been a while since I went shopping for Bentleys or vinyards (damn, one thing I envy those billionnaire buggers for is, them being able to buy a few acres in Oakville or Stags Leap ....)

Just be glad I change out of my cycling clothes when I'm off the bike. I've got a small collection of cycling jerseys ... the ones from the late70s/early 80s (I guess the first using "man-made-material") are truly terrible stink

I'm two for two for wives that like me in shorts. One even procreated with me. Just for giggles, pics of my 22oz Oni and flip flops to follow...
Shorts, Corgi socks and Allen Edmonds upon request.
