You're only thinking about the individual pieces of the outfit, but aren't considering the style and confidence of the individual. Someone who knows how to successfully wear strange items/faux pas outfits will look far better than someone who doesn't know how to wear what's cool/in style/fashionable. Sure some would look better than others, but it still doesnt make functional sense. To me the unfunctional silliness of it all overshadows the "style" and "confidence". But good for them though for trying to be different, and not caring about what some people would think about it. Sometimes we do things just because we can.

There is tons of stuff that lies within the cutting edge "fashion" realm, and I'm certain that 99% of it is never intended to ever be worn out by humans beyond the toilet-paper eating models.
At least the more extreme stuff. Let's face it, most of us are overly concerned that the stuff we buy looks good - when/where have you seen some of that silly garb outside of a show or a Halloween party?
I don't give a rat's ass about what most people think, but I do try to match my clothing for the event - if there is one. Otherwise, it's what I feel like doing. Period.

It's all true. And the fashion lately is defined by a special sub-type of hipster called lumbersexual. See urbandictionary for Lumbersexual definitions. thankfully I haven't seen that trend here in DC yet. And will probably never see it in Asia. Only if you exclude Japan from Asia.

The girl said jeans are a no go with birks. I never wore flip flops with jeans, since I was 21-22.

True, but a lot of the current lumbersexual & work wear trend (minus the beard) is driven by Japanese influence...which was driven by appreciation of pre-war american and Japanese blue collar garb

I'm still on the fence about Birkenstocks. I have a return period to think about. $83 could be spent elsewhere.

I've been busy and not posting as much so I missed this thread, but came here when I saw it to post up "get Rainbow". However, bentin covered that on post two. Now I see these beauties above and I'm thinking my Rainbow allegiance is in question. This thread was a good read through all the diversions and left turns from the topic. The Dandy guy is awesome btw. I am too old, too wide in the shoulders and "manly" (meaning caveman vs fine bone structure) to even think about a look like that for myself. Putting aside the love it or hate it aesthetics, that guy is killing it in that look though. Confidence and vision are a large part of the equation. Life would be a long, boring ride full of beige lameness without people who DGAF and just do their thing. OK off to yoox locate the flops above....

@stevekas, last time I looked those have come off of sale, making them pricey. I paid $65 with free shipping. When I get them I'll give my impressions. First time this has happened to me with yoox but the free shipping is apparently the longest route possible, they won't get to me until Friday. They made three stops in Italy alone!

Sounds good @61scout. Looking forward to it. If I knew more about the sole material I'd make my own as I do some leatherwork on the side. I may have to give that a shot actually. Please post up when thy get done partying in Italy.

I'll still get some Birks, probably not that pair though. It's the same reason why I haven't bought a pair of Iron Rangers or Moc toe boots...
