Head's up if anyone is still thinking of "repatching" their zimbs (repatch? what is this, sons of anarchy? lol) I spoke to Ren yesterday. The factory claims that only the 18s were supposed to have the veg tan patch and only the 18s were sewn up out of spec. The lites and 15s were spec'd to have a brown patch. If you have a lite or 15 and are still after a veg tan patch, I would contact Ren again before following the advice previously posted in this thread. If you look at the descriptions of the backed Zims, unless they've been changed since, only 18oz says Veg Tan, 10oz is brown and 15oz says nothing. www.weargustin.com/store/1083www.weargustin.com/store/1061www.weargustin.com/store/971

But prior runs of the Zimb 15s were shipped with veg tan patch. So it's understandable that one would expect this run to have the veg tan patch also. And initial Gustin said they would repatch 15s if you sent them in.

Been wearing my 15oz zimbs daily since September. No soak no wash. Fades are coming throw all over. Starting to think I should wash them but nahhhh.
I have a feeling after a soak/wash they will be decently faded after a few more days of wear.

Zimb18s after 17 wears, 1 hot soak. Not starchy, just so tightly woven that they keep their shape while off. Heavyweight belt doesn't hurt.

Those of you with the Zim18, I need to ask you a slightly strange personal question. Do they make a funny noise when you walk? I'm not talking about the usual sort of raspy sound of denim on denim when your legs brush together sometimes. This was more of a soft, low popping noise coming from the crotch/butt area. (Not gas, I swear! That was the dog!) I sounded like one of those bubbly geothermal mud pits in Yellowstone every time I walked around the office yesterday.
I'm guessing this was probably just a result of the particular way mine were riding yesterday, be it the belt holding them a certain way or the boots pushing up on the legs a certain way or just how they happen to be breaking in at this particular moment, because they didn't do anything like this when I wore them for the first time last weekend. Anyway, thought I'd mention it in case anyone else had this happen and was a little embarrassed about it. You are not alone!

Hey, Mattbert, no noises w/ Zim18's for me, yet. Washed 'em hot/gentle after about a month's daily wear. They tightened & shrank a little (which I prefer) but, I think, like most raw denim, it basically just stretches out w/ wear to about the same waist measurements. Yeah, a little more loss/shrinkage in the other measurements. Love 'em. I far prefer the 18's to the 15's but, of course, that's totally subjective. Seem like they will fade really nicely. Really impressed with these jeans!

No noises while wearing Zim 18s either. I warm soaked them after wearing them once. They tightened up quite a bit in waist and length. I'm wearing them again today and they are just as stiff before the soak, but still comfortable.

Yeah, they bleed like no other. Also, skateboarding is great for fades because wiping sweaty palms on your pants and then eating sh*t is basically the equivalent of the mist +abrasion technique they use to pre-fade pants ;-)

I feel that it is surprising the zims aren't backed yet. It could be because I backed them and want them in production asap…

Does someone want to give me a nice long good reason why I should back the Zimbs? I really really really want a pair, but I have silks, japan black blacks, the 23s, and a nice pair of in cloudiness japanese indigo pants, so I don't really like... need another pair of indigos...

You've come to the wrong place if you're looking for someone to talk you out of it. I'm assuming based on the "really really really" that you're gonna back them anyway. Only reason I can think of is if you happened to find the fabric somewhere else, in a cut you trust, for cheaper, next day delivery. If you find such a place, though, you may get stabbed on the way.

Zim cotton is to jeans what Chromexcel leather is to boots. It's just another level of intrest. Both Zim cotton and CXL leather are supple but Tough! They don't wear, they patina. It may be subtle, and most won't see it but you see it and feel it. The pairs I have, have a very smooth hand, not your typical denim feel.... Almost a leather feel. I've been avoiding this thread. My 15oz sewed up big (Gustin didn't offer a 37" at the time, so not my favorite fitting) and returned the KingZims, again sewed up big
