RIP to the purple one. Surprised on this one, but not entirely as there are some stars that you can't really imagine aging. Prince was a concert I never had a chance to experience, but with his music catalog, I certainly hope Cirque de Soliel or another do something in Vegas (similarly to the Michael Jackson One show). Of course, I'd be remiss if I didn't mention the iconic Chappelle Show skit - Charlie Murphy/Prince Random - it's really not easy to find much on Prince videos or the Chappelle skit on YouTube. Minnesota especially Minneapolis is in mourning for sure. His passing left a big void. www.citypages.com/music/prince-memorial-party-all-night-joyfest-at-first-ave-honors-an-icon-8224498

Fun Fact: Screamin' Jay Hawkins had 57 kids...... His music is ok in an oddball sort of way but hearing that, no respect at all. I wonder what percentage of them grew up in poverty.

I heard this amazing cover of Black Sabbath's "Changes" this morning on NPR. I've heard this song a zillion times, but didn't realize how haunting the lyrics are until today.

So anyone getting in on the HiFiMAN 350 on massdrop? I didn't know what these were but looked them up and if they sound amazing that is a decent price for great headphones. I still like my Sony 7506 which are great for the price also. Would be nice to have a pair of the hifi man to compare

I dont buy into the $300 msrp and they are not planar drivers that hifiman is known for but imho that frequenzy respons looks pretty good for $99 and since they are big and open they might be easy to wear and im hoping ok for music and awesome for games.
I do think they Will be a little too bright and less bassy then perfect but again..$99... so aslong as you consider this and have another pair its not too bad if they work with games and maybe even sound very nice with certain kinds of music.
I already have the akg k601 and they are Said to be straight frequenzy with little bass and yes they dont excell in rock and metal but omg at blues and gaming. I dont wanna wear them out tho, they have gotten a little crack in the headband so i need a gaming can that i wont cry over if they break and can also holds its own with some Spotify and i think these could be Worth the money.

I love both styles and my ultrasone rock my socks off and are always enjoyable, but I get hot an uncomfortable pretty fast with the closed cans and love to change to opens sometimes, its like going from skinny jeans to sweatpants and instead of having the music inside your head you get a bigger soundstage. But they leak sound both in and out so heads up. These are also easy to drive so you dont need an amp like with the bigger akg so yeah pretty good price here and ill bet you can get $99 back on ebay incase they sound too sharp.

A Twin Cities music station (89.3 The Current) just did a list of the 893 most essential albums as voted on by the listeners. Given that it's a Minnesota station, Prince, Bob Dylan and The Replacements rate higher than they would have elsewhere. www.thecurrent.org/feature/2016/05/05/893-essential-albumsNevermind is #1. I don't really get too bent out of shape about what is ranked where in these kind of things; I mostly just appreciate scrolling through it. Brings back a lot of good memories.

Two things about this are interesting to me: 1) 8000 voters. Who tallied all the votes? I'm sure its something that had to be tallied manually. This must have taken forever. 2) From my understanding, you could vote for 10 albums. Keep that in mind as you look at albums 800-893. Are there people out there that consider Throwing Copper by Live (#844) in the top ten of all the albums in history of the world? I mean Lightning Crashes is a good song and all, but jeez.

It's not in my top list but to someone it was and I think that's fine. It must have affected them in a great way. It was recorded in Minnesota too so I will give it some props. It is a great album and they are a great band. I did get to work with the singer Ed Kowalczyk in the studio. I hear what you're saying though. I would think the votes were computer tallied.

Seems appropriate with the remake of Roots ongoing. Instant classic album, we'll still be talking about this in 20 years.
