I am a huge music guy so I have to get some going in here. I was talking about Pink Floyd with some musicians who of course like them but had never listened to or heard Pink Floyd at Pompeii. I showed this to them and they were freaking out as they had never seen it. Sounds like a good one to post here. One of my favs. Good late night listening/watching Post up what you are all into at your leisure. Audio or video.

Nice selection Winterland! I've found some various great shows on YouTube (in their entirety), from Pink Floyd to others.

Yes Matt Youtube is an amazing resource for the music lover. There is music and video on there that just wasn't available to the general public. Only through bootlegs etc. Here one of my favorite Led Zeppelin songs Ten Years Gone from the Physical Graffiti album. Such an epic song full of dynamics. Zeppelin is my 8 year old boys favorite band. I tried to get it to be The Beatles, but Zepp will work.

Prepare yourselves! for one of the dirtiest, downright nastiest bass lines you will ever hear in your ear. You have now been warned. If this doesn't make you feel like a bad man, there is something wrong with you.

So music....I love it...I've held off on posting on here to this point because I could go on for hours about it. I'm a musician, have been since I was 10..played in bands...blah blah blah.
Anywho...I wanted to post this. Anybody who is a musician will really appreciate this and know that this guy has crazy talent. Hopefully you know the song he is covering because it will make it that much more enjoyable. Check this dude out.

lol...well, I'm not sure if you're being sarcastic or serious?? But I'll assume the latter.
Did you check out the Dark Horse cover he does completely in the style of System of a Down? You would have to be a fan of or at least familiar with System of a Down to really appreciate it but it's sick.
Check it out;

The ten second guy is very talented. I like the SOD one much better as it is not Katy Perry related.

I played Alto Saxophone in school band in my elementary school days..played for about 5 years (yeah, I was a band geek . Then at age 12 I picked up the guitar and played the shit out of that. I was in two bands in my teens, played a bunch of shows..it was a good time. I started selling a lot of my gear when I became a father in my early twenties. The only things I have left are my Ibanez RG series guitar, a few BOSS pedals, and a Randall 4x12 cab. I will pick it up still every 3 or 4 months or so and just play around on it, but I definitely don't play it like I used to. I still love music though...it's still in my blood...it's just that life happens (kids, work, etc..) and unfortunately it's just hard to find the time to play much these days.

Cool, I play guitar too. Haven't played much for many years either - and, although it's like riding a bike in some ways, it would take me a few months of serious 12 hour days to get back to what I was "in my day". Well, 2 guitarists and a drummer .... I see a band forming here

Ahhh. Finally checked out the second one and others. He really likes Katy as I see he does others styles of the song too. Anything Katy repels me for some reason. I can only watch a bit of those as they are kind of a novelty thing too. I am more of a Shreds guy. I can watch them over and over and still laugh. It's all good. We all have different tastes.
I remember when the Shreds first came out and playing some of them for some great and prominent musicians while we were in the studio. Their reactions were great as they had never seen them before and couldn't understand what was going on at first. They always loved them. I always liked this Santana one.

I recommend Neil Young's recent book Waging Heavy Peace: A Hippie Dream. Somewhat a bio of his life. Recovering from a broken toe and was told by his doctor to quit smoking pot. He didn't have anything else to do. It is basically word for word his writing, not ghost written or edited. He rambles at times for sure but is a great read.

Good idea, Winterland. I would not have thought to talk about music books in here. This is my favorite book about music. It's also about the creative process, drugs, the uneasy relationship between money and art, racism, the Civil Rights movement, you name it. Art Taylor, one of the greatest jazz drummers who ever lived, collected a series of interviews with various other musicians over the course of his career, and he published 25-30 of the best ones in this book. It's packed with incredible insights into American and African American culture in the mid-20th century. I generally despise re-reading books, but this is one of the few that I try to pull off the shelf about every five years or so. I read it for the first time when I was in high school, and I can honestly say it's one of those "change your life" books. Not just my favorite music book, but one of my favorites of any genre period. Definitely one of the most important. If I had my way, nobody would graduate from high school in this country without having read it.

I need to read The Wrecking Crew that I got for a present first then I might check this one out.

I thought I would share this here. I usually end up writing about my experiences at concerts.
Still thinking about how great the Queensryche show was this Thursday night. I have been a fan since I first heard The Warning and Queensryche Ep. Then Rage for Order came out and it became one of my favorite albums and still is. Operation Mindcrime was released and Queensryche became a Headbangers ball staple on MTV back when they actually played music. Empire came out with hits like Silent Lucidity, Empire etc and they were one of the biggest bands around. They released more albums and released a new album in 2013.
I saw them open for Metallica at the Met Center 1989. I went to a record store signing and had my Mindcrime album signed but was stolen years later. I did see them a few years ago when they did their first gig with new singer Todd La Torre when QR parted ways with Geoff Tate. Geoff Tate has been know as one of the best voices in rock/metal. Replacing him seemed impossible. I couldn't believe what I heard hearing La Torre sing for the first time. It was like I was hearing Geoff Tate from albums.
Being able to see them up close in a smaller venue like the Medina was so cool. I have to say the Medina is not the best room with the low ceilings but the sound was great and you could see well if you were up front which I was. I was able to get passes for show through one of my best friends, thanks Lionel, who works with QR drummer Scott Rockenfield, one of the best rock drummers around, who also scores music for film.
I almost didn't get to go to the show as I was in the middle of recording a blues album with Bernard Allison but Bernard was cool with ending the session early for me to be able to go rock out. The show was amazing. They played a setlist that spanned their whole discography. The crowd was very excited. A Queen tribute band Essential Queen opened the show but I missed it. I heard it was very good.
The whole band was perfectly tight. The sounds were all great. I love the great bass playing, drumming and guitar rhythms and harmony leads. Once again the vocals really blew me away. It was as if I was listening to the albums. Geoff Tate always had a unique voice and how another person can sing like that is just mind blowing. I know many in the crowd had not heard the new singer and people were very vocal about how they couldn't believe what they were hearing either. They played a great set and the crowd including me didn't want to let them stop playing. I was happy though.
Seeing others enjoy music is such a joy. The feeling of everyone being like minded and tuning into the feelings of the musicians and song is a great thing. Music is medicine for many of us and helps us get through our crazy lives. Seeing a person next to me with a huge smile with their eyes closed or sometimes a tear in the eye, really is beautiful.
Getting to hang out with the band after the show was a real treat. I had met them at the last show also. Still having them remember you and taking the time to hear from a fan gives you great respect for a band. They took the time to sign anything people had and take as many pictures as you wanted. A friend who went with was even drinking their booze after getting locked out of backstage because they went to get a beer first. Ha! Was a great night.
Queensryche setlist 10/24 Minneapolis Nightrider Breaking the Silence Walk in the Shadows The Whisper En Force Warning X2 Where Dreams Go to Die Guitar Solo The Needle Lies NM 156 The Lady Wore Black My Empty Room Eyes of a Stranger Empire Encore: Queen of the Reich Jet City Woman Take Hold of the Flame

This was one of the best parts of the show and someone, probably right in front of me, recorded it. They got some great video. Yes you can hear fans singing and talking sometimes louder than the band but it's all good. When you are right in front you sometimes hear the sounds coming from the stage more than the PA system depending on where the speakers are. It is not me blabbing away. ha! I was listening, some singing.
