liquidating my in-laws estate has inspired me to de-clutter. Go thru and get rid of all the stuff that is just clutter. It's surprising how fast it builds up.

Had to do that myself (not a family member, a friends estate). I came to realize how futile gathering Stuff is. Most of my friend belongings ended up in the dump. Sad.

Yes my in-laws weren't hoarders by any means but threw very little away. They had 25 years of gas bills, on and on. We kept the sentimental items and sold and donated what we could and yep the rest into the trash. Planning on some garage sales this year. My clothing spending has lessened recently, I just don't need anymore and see lees things that want.

Moving late spring early summer. Out of my house 5/20 is our new closing date. I realized I don't have that much stuff but I do have a ton of clothing and style related stuff. I don't really have a lot of other things.
But going from 972sq/ft to 2680sq/ft above ground living space I will have to spend a decent amount on furniture.

Made it through the weekend no problem. Went to a couple of stores (TJMaxx, Macy's) but honestly I have no desire to shop at any stores anymore. Only thing that I looked at was the Pionter Brand jacket sale (50% Off). If I wasn't doing this 1YNS I would have bought a Fisher Stripe one. But with this self challenge it was pretty easy to not buy anything.

But with this self challenge it was pretty easy to not buy anything. before watching Midnight Special yesterday I stopped at J.Crew and Gap just to browse. Wasn't even remotely interested in spending money with them. It's weird. now that i've had a taste of higher quality clothing all of a sudden mall brand pricing offends me. I know many of these mall brands like Gap and such always have their ongoing sales but at full price their shirts are $50+ and made in a sweatshop somewhere for next to nothing. All of a sudden, paying $150-200 for a flannel shirt seems like a bargain when you consider who made it and where it was made.

Found myself Looking/Googling at Clarks Desert Boots yesterday as I'd like to find a summer shoe. But quickly dismissed the idea.

Sooo how is this coming? DigDugSo far so good. I still haven't broken the habit of looking for stuff. I found a pair of cordovan shell blucher on eBay I would have bid on. And have been looking at the Rogue Territory ISC shirt. But the impulse buy is subsiding.

I have been trying to sell things before buying. +1 -1.
I have a lot of shoes that I am trying to get rid of. Recently started running so that was +2 shoes (minimal and a 'regular') and then I got some sandals.
Sold 2 Patagonia jackets, bought 1.
Still trying to reduce..(or throw away)

I'll start saving when I'm dead. Or is that sleeping. I don't know, I don't do much of either.

17 days into this thing and I'm kind of liking it. I've looked at some nice stuff and been able to appreciate it but walk away. Having the 1 year goal is helping to keep stuff in prospective.
But I'm not kidding myself, I've got 348 days to go. If I back something 3 months prior to the 1 year, does that count?

But would you disqualify yourself if you received something after you started your one year, but had backed it before starting? If not, then it's not about when you receive your product, but when you paid for it. But that would be a good problem to have, having gone through 9 months of no spending, and only be considered when you come to that road.

You are the one looking at yourself in the mirror and not us.

Yeah, I don't think I will back anything and stay true to this experiment. One small problem that I forgot about. My Boys are graduating next year and we're planning a month long trip to the old country (Italy). Would be nice to have a few things.
