17 days into this thing and I'm kind of liking it. I've looked at some nice stuff and been able to appreciate it but walk away. Having the 1 year goal is helping to keep stuff in prospective. But I'm not kidding myself, I've got 348 days to go. If I back something 3 months prior to the 1 year, does that count? yes

BIG Decision i need to make. There is a great investment property that have 1st shot at (Big, Nice, great location). But it will take every penny we have and then some And take the summer to update. If all goes well, I could be close to being retired. If it doesnt go well I'd most likely lose 100k
I only have 24 hours to decide.

Back on point with the original topic of this thread - I do feel inspired by everyone who does attempt and participates in these challenges. I try to participate as much as I can, but am a little less disciplined when it comes to sticking to it. Having these threads serve as a nice reminder for me to stick to my philosophies and not shop.

If you're okay with the risk, and can handle it, and you've minimized the risk as much as you could, go for it. But if it could potentially cripple you, it might be wise to be content and wait for a less risky investment to come around.

Agree, 24hrs for a live changing decision? that is a red flag. Out of curiosity, how could this house get you closer to retirement, thinking on living off the rental income?

It's a larger multi family that I'd live off the rental and then convert to condos. I've got first dibs until tomorrow when it goes on the market.

As good as it could be I feel like I should stick to my no spend.

Going to stick this out. I would have bought a couple items this past month... - Some sort of comfortable shoes (maybe the Oak Street Trench Oxfords) - Possibly the Rogue Territory ISC shirt.
$650 saved (and not having to justify it to myself or my wife)

I'm only trying a no-clothing spend, but all bets are off on my bike build (just ordered the frame) and for furnishings for a forthcoming house. It's a nice motivation to see you stick through this.

The only thing I've purchased since December was the TS Tan Long Haul Trucker on Jan. 14. And before that, a set of stitch rippers on Dec. 19. And before that, a pair of smartwool socks in mid November. The last pair of denim or shirt I bought was back in October. September. The TS Crater shirt and the Gustin American Antiques. It can be done. Easily. No spend since Jan. 14 still in tact. Wish I didn't buy that TS long haul in January, or I'd be on month 7 already.

i'm already 60 days into my no spend. gotta say, it's easier than I thought. Plus, I donated a ton of crap to the thrift store so I feel good about that.

I am refocused on this and while I was proudly cruising along at no spend since mid-January, I managed to talk myself into some all white Jack Purcell's and some sweet Vans (Old Skool Hi8). So, presently at 3 weeks in, 49 to go.

I find myself appreciating what I have more so. I don't think I would have any chance of succeeding (look at me, talking like I've already have 6 months in on this:), if I hadn't already built a decent wordrobe. But at some point there's no need to keep building. I think a year off (4 full seasons) will give me the time to really see what's lacking/needed and allow me to buy these "needed" items with clear head.

I think I could probably hold off that long, but at the same time, I don't want to buy up a bunch of stuff because it's on my want list. the only thing I could be persuaded to spend money on in the Fall is 3sixteen's new crosscut flannel but that's about it.

Damn Apple techs will get you every time. I was in there getting my Macbook serviced and asking them when they are going to start serving drinks. He mentioned our location (Scottsdale) and how it would turn into a trendy hangout for the silicon suburbia of Scottsdale. Fair point. I retracted my ask. Granted, that's great scenery while I wait and a bit of an entertaining wreck.
