I'll try to stick to "1 in 1 out"... So far, it's futile, nobody is biting on my for sale items! For a year or so, I stuck to a "1 in 2 out" strategy and that helped, but also became a rationalization to selectively upgrade. This reminded me... Where is Old26 hiding these days?

That's an odd title. How do you go an entire year without clothes. I'd probably go to jail.

I found that it's not enough to recognize that it's "vanity, impulse, a chasing after the wind." That's an important motivation to not spend unnecessarily, but it's a negative goal. It helps to add a positive goal, like "I'd rather save for a Craftsman style house in Northern California with a fireplace". And each extra $100 is in service of that positive goal. That helps test whether spending is really in line with your values.

Almost forgot, I have $120 credit at TS. To make sure it is no cheating, the year should not start until you get all the items and spend the gift card.

Those pennies that we save by not buying IH from IHUK will get us nowhere closer to a Bay Area home with no freaking fireplace. Not even enough to pay the rent for a two bedroom apartment in SF. Vent off... stupid home price here.

For me a lot of it is the thrill of the hunt. As my wardrobe is full I've been much more selective and I can wait for a good deal.

If you hang around here, this will be tough to pull off. You might need a sponsor. One day at a time. Good luck bro!

I volunteer my ridicule services. Post up what you're tempted by and I will point out its flaws, poor construction, lack of connection to historically significant world events or just throw up a Zoolander gif. I'm bentin and I'm here to help.

Yes, I am currently sitting on a capsizing boat in the harbor, falling down drunk, sewing up some awesome patterned shirts!

You know I'm too old and too much of a curmudgeon for this newfangled Instagram thing. I only stalk Vermilyea Pelle for my briefcase over there.

The only thing I've purchased since December was the TS Tan Long Haul Trucker on Jan. 14. And before that, a set of stitch rippers on Dec. 19. And before that, a pair of smartwool socks in mid November. The last pair of denim or shirt I bought was back in October. September. The TS Crater shirt and the Gustin American Antiques.
It can be done. Easily.
