Anyone else joining me? Rules I'm setting for myself -
1- To take the sting out of it all I'm allowing one purchase (mostly because I need a clean light jacket. The ones I have now are not presentable) 2- I can use the store credit I have (have $120 at TS, don't want to lose it) 3- Only thing I'll allow are Repairs (shoe laces, buttons, etc), tailoring on excisting items. 4- I'm going to try and extend this beyond clothing and basically buy No more "Stuff/Things" unless they are for my Wife and Kids.

I need to, but I can't. Heading to .eu tomorrow on vacation, so I'd have to allow for souvenirs.

What about an underwear exception? You are one shart away from potentially ruining your challenge. I'm thinking I could do this, at least on the clothing front. I'm one month and 2 days into a no clothing spend at the moment, but do feel like I could be swayed (for that reason I won't commit). I'm going to start with clothing, but it may not extend beyond there (finishing a mountain bike build and have a few concerts I'm looking to grab tickets for). Aside from that, my spend is probably going to be mostly on the family and house essentials.

Aside from that, my spend is probably going to be mostly on the family and house essentials. I think I've got enough underwear to get me through the year (plus I have a few pairs coming from G). I'm not giving up entertainment (so going to a show is ok). It's the accumulation of "Things" that I'm giving up for a year. If I was in the middle of finishing a project (bike) I'd give myself a pass considering it's a project already started and would be silly to let it sit there.

I also bought a pair of jeans from Leon Denim. A couple of things that would easily help me not buy anything is 1) stop checking this forum, SF and SuperFuture/SuperDenim and 2) delete my Instagram account. I could also unsubscribe from company emails so as not to be tempted by sales and new drops. In other words, i'd have to stop reading the internets completely if I want the temptation to buy to go away.

I'm in. My personal 1 year started after the TS jacket in January. Except for underwear, socks, and a belt if my work or personal one breaks.

I have no reason to live if I don't buy any clothes for a year. I can justify not buying jeans. I have 13-14 pairs and when I look at my closet I keep thinking, 'what the hell were you thinking?' it'll take me years to break in that many jeans, so right now i'm limiting myself to rotating 2 pairs at any given time.

Yeah. I would feel like an absolute idiot if I bought another pair of jeans. I'm probably already an idiot for buying the ones I did.

Yeah. I would feel like an absolute idiot if I bought another pair of jeans. I'm probably already an idiot for buying the ones I did. Sadly, that's part of the addiction. It's either gonna be a situation where you couldn't pass something up because it was a deal, or it was a pair of jeans with a unique weight/warp/weft, or a grail item. my grail jeans are a pair of PBJ-XX13's and a pair of Ande Whall SR denim. But, I simply don't need another pair of jeans even though the temptation is there. The only way I could justify another jean purchase is to thin the herd and start selling stuff off.

I don't have any desire to buy selvedge jeans anymore. The biker jeans is a totally different story.... I need every colors!

You can't remove all temptation, the important thing is learning to control impulses.

You can't remove all temptation, the important thing is learning to control impulses. I always ask myself whether I want something or need something. In most cases it's a 'want' so I let it go

i think you can do it digdug especially for materialistic things that you want to appreciate. I'm trying to only spend on travel/music concerts as I got tons of crap to keep me warm at home lol. When your stuff eventually gives up on you, then you can replace it

Do you have to have successfully completed the 30 Day No Spend and the 90 Day No Spend before signing up for the 1 Year? Did anybody get through that one?

Good article. In my case I'm not necessarily embracing a minimalist life style or purging my belongings. I just feel that I've become skewed in my thinking. A year off on gathering and more wearing is my new thought. Oddly I'm only 1/4 mile away from Henry David Thoreau's Walden pond tonight.
