Here in Milwaukee, a new record high was set..... 58°. The old record was 55°, set in 1982, another El Niño winter.

30ºs at night, fireplace getting used again! 30 high 20 low here in Minneapolis today. We have snow in northern Minnesota but none here. I'm actually hoping for a white Christmas but not looking like it's going to happen so far. Your beautiful fire reminds me I need to get some wood out of the garage. We haven't used ours yet this year as it's been so mild. Will fire it up this evening and tomorrow.

The wood I'm using is from the Walnut tree that destroyed the back of our home in November, 2011 (while we were in France). We've had such mild "winters" that we've not been able to use it. Now, I've gone through a ton of it in two weeks!

Burning it was the most rewarding thing I could do...

It's kind of funny seeing what people are wearing. We don't know how to handle this 65 degrees and a bit humid. Some are in T's and shorts others in Boots and wool jackets.

I was tempted to do a throwback day of cargo shorts and wheat Timbs. If it was sunny, I'd probably have done it. Instead I just wore denim and boat shoes.

This surprise snow day has turned into an absolute disaster for this area. Two hours and still not home yet from work. Accidents at every hill, and every street is now glazed with ice. Fun.

Gotdang..only took me 5 hours to get home. An overturned bus wiped out my way home (only took me 2 hours of waiting to found that out), and all the icy local roads made for some seriously horrible slip and sliding. The bright side to all of this is that I finally decided to stop being cheap, and pulled the trigger on 4 winter tires, and a set of chains. Also, these came in in the nick of time =) Nothing going to be better than Commando Soles for this weather. Especially the impending blanket of snow we're due this weekend.
