Wife's a huge X fan. Used to see them all that time in LA. Her fam is in the music biz and she got to see a lot of great stuff here. Cool. Does John Doe play the clubs in LA now?

Doesn't mean Bowie, Iggy, and Reed weren't a part of it. Yes, Bowie for sure. To me glam was as much about how they presented themselves and stage shows. I don't remember seeing reed or pop in platforms and sequined jump suits. It's kind of like saying the stones are disco. They did release a disco flavored album (Bowie also) but that's about as far as it goes. Not to be pedantic. but this is a limited view of what glam is/was. It was about a sound as well. Iggy and Lou were a part of that scene, man.

Good Glam discussion. Bowie for sure had his Glam phase. Others as mentioned also.
I'd consider Missing Persons more New Wave. It's all good though as many genres cross over and are just a name.
I loved Sweet and think of them as hard rock on some of their albums. They went through many different phases of their sound. This song rocks. There were ahead of their time on songs like this. A good one to play loud.

Or I guess the correct way to put it would be that I hear a hint of a Sweet influence in early Metallica now after hearing this song.

That's cool that you hear that as yes Sweet did have a more modern metal sound but back in the 70's. Its interesting as they even had a bubble gum type sound early on as shown here with one of their early hit songs. And here's another later more modern sounding hard rock/metal song but still good hooks. Probably heard other versions of this song. A few bands have covered it.

Hating to admit to a pretty big love for The Sweet. Huge back in the day, and really was music that guys and girls all seemed to dig, which was tough as most of us guys were into more rock and the gals loved The Carpenters, etc. Hard though as the 70's had SO much great music, it makes today pale. I know, old man, get off my lawn, but it's true

Winterland damned you for posting those Sweet songs. I had successfully forgotten all about "little Willie" and now I can't get the blitz song out of my head. Curses!

So could you say: Elvis, Sinatra and Bowie? Or is that just bc its still so close to the death?
It would be hard to think about growing up with cable as a new thing and MTV in those days without Bowie. I didnt use to listen to a full album like i did with my favourites, and even tho i liked alot of complicated music i never really got him fully, i think i was too young. but i also often got that feeling mentioned when he came on or was talked about - Here is a genuine artist, the real thing, "a star".
Im also very selective about what i like, for instance i dont care at all for rebel-rebel but I think Heroes is genius. I dont like dancing in the street but like this is not America.

This has been a rough stretch for music. Bowie, now Glenn Fry of the Eagles. Not in the same impact as Bowie to me, but an iconic piece of an impactful band to the masses.

R.I.P. Glenn Fry The Eagles at the Met Stadium Bloomington MN Aug 1. 1978 Hotel California Tour was my first concert. I was just a young music fan. I loved and still love the Hotel California Album. A couple pictures included I found from the concert. I will never forget it. They broke the attendance record for the stadium and announced it over the PA. 65,000 people! A huge storm came by with lightning lighting up the sky, bringing cheers from the crowd. It did start raining and from what I remember The Eagles stopped playing for a short bit but resumed and it cleared up beautifully. There was a tarp of some type on the stadium grass to protect it and I remember people going under the tarp on the sides to get out of the rain. I always wondered if there were any babies made underneath. Haha! Our tickets were on the lower deck seats next to the floor and I believe we were protected a little from the rain but I do remember someone with us getting puked on People were openly smoking natures finest and drinking by all ages going on everywhere. It was like a huge party with a great set list of music. Pablo Cruise and Steve Miller Band who were both huge at the time opened the concert. I was hooked into music and live concerts forever. Thanks Glenn.. I couldn't find a set list for that night but this one was for a few days earlier. Should be close. Hotel California Walk Away (James Gang cover) Victim of Love Doolin-Dalton Keep On Tryin' (Poco cover) Desperado Lyin' Eyes One of These Nights Turn to Stone (Joe Walsh song) Already Gone Witchy Woman Life's Been Good (Joe Walsh song) Life in the Fast Lane Rocky Mountain Way (Joe Walsh song) James Dean The Best of My Love Tequila Sunrise Take It Easy

Probably not anyone's cup of tea on here but I found out that Jimmy Scott died a couple years ago. Far too many pass with little fanfare. So here you go..... "Little" Jimmy Scott

Or I guess the correct way to put it would be that I hear a hint of a Sweet influence in early Metallica now after hearing this song. Almost all of Metallica's influences were British or European from the 70s and, you're right, some of those Sweet riffs are almost identical to some Metallica would later use. One of the most underrated Glam bands were Starz. Their 'Brightest Starz' best of album is a must have for anyone into this kind of music.
