Bowie is one concert I wished I could have experienced in my life. An icon of music and culture.

R.I.P. David Bowie. I went down the rabbit hole many times checking out his albums in my early teens and on. Was lucky to see the Glass Spider tour 1987 in Winnipeg Arena main floor up close. I can still remember the feeling of seeing him walk out on stage. Here is a Star was the only thing that came to mind and throughout the whole show.

Double up on the Heroes but that's just fine.

Can't believe Iggy outlasted Ziggy and Lou. RIP David Bowie.

Note on Bowie - SiriusXM has a limited engagement David Bowie channel available. Channel 30 playing all things Bowie for the foreseeable future. I'd be in favor of that becoming a permanent addition.

After a time they should just expand it to T.Rex, Roxy, Lou/VU, Iggy, Mott, The Sweet, Slade and just call it the glam rock station. I'd listen.

Gonna have to watch Velvet Goldmine again this weekend.

I'm surprised they don't already have a glam channel

I am not always into all the cover version of songs these days but here is a decent Bowie one. I am preferential to it as I recommended Jordis to the producers of the show. I had worked with her recording a band she was singing for. She didn't even want to audition for the show but she did and did very well.

Yahoo just posted (last night) the "Top 25 David Bowie Covers" - it was a decent list. It was a broad range (Marilyn Manson's Young Americans cover, The Cure, etc.) but I feel like they missed out on a few other classics. I'm a little partial to these covers that didn't make the list: Eddie Vedder & Ben Harper - Under Pressure Not really a "cover" per se, but with no Freddie, this is another variant: (no idea WTF Annie Lennox is wearing)

Not if glam is the theme. Can't think of a Reed or Iggy album that were glam. Both have associations with Bowie but so does Bing Crosby.

What the wha?! Having Warhol as your manager just gets you into the glam rock category by default. If the VU isn't glam rock... en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_glam_rock_artistsNot sure I see Iggy/Stooges as such a shoe in, but at least the stuff he wrote for Bowie and others qualifies.

Anyway, leaving out Velvet Underground (I see them sort of predating it, but I'm no expert, and they easily had an influence on it), I would have no trouble associating Lou Reed's self-titled debut with glam rock, but he certainly didn't stay there as he was already transitioning out of it on Transformer (even though Berlin is pretty glam-rocky). Iggy Pop is harder to pin down, but I'd bet punk rockers at the time would have called him a glam rocker. Either way, I don't think you'd have much trouble finding something in either of their discographies to play on a glam-rock station.

Berlin? No way. It was more polished due to Bob Ezrin, but subject matter alone puts it in a different category. At any rate glam in general had a very short life. The bands that didn't progress faded away i.e. The Sweet.

Of all the music that changed me when I moved to Cali, that would be up there. Hard sometimes to put a hard line on who goes where though. Nobody has mentioned anything shit so far so it's all good

To me glam was as much about how they presented themselves and stage shows. I don't remember seeing reed or pop in platforms and sequined jump suits. It's kind of like saying the stones are disco. They did release a disco flavored album (Bowie also) but that's about as far as it goes.

Ill bet you could find as many people who love VU that think it's shit and at this point everything they ever recorded is available and some of it was better left alone.

One of the best shows I've ever been to (Eddie Vedder at the Pearl Theater in Las Vegas in 2012) and they covered Golden State (John Doe original).

Wife's a huge X fan. Used to see them all that time in LA. Her fam is in the music biz and she got to see a lot of great stuff here.
