Any Filson Life guys out there? Hoping to buy a Tin Cruiser soon. There's a supplier the next town over that has one for $160. Should have bought it this past summer when I saw it. I've been using my Pointer Brand that I waxed with Otter Wax (came out dam nice). But I might as well have the best!
Love there jacket. My favorite is a wool scout jacket in plaid (for got what it's called). Have a few others, love them all.

These are the ultimate chore jacket IMO. What sets them apart from the imitators, is that they have a double layer on top of sleeves, and shoulder and back, which really improves protection from wetness. I also have a Filson bomber style wool jacket, out of mackinaw wool, which when layered under the Cruiser makes for a formidable cold weather duo.

Filson is the best
I've got a Cover Cloth Weekender (renamed the Mile Marker I believe) with matching hood and zip in liner The liner is a little large as it's designed for the classic fit and the jacket is the Seattle fit
I've got a brand new Double Mac cap that I'm going to swap for the new Trapper tomorrow

I have a waxed trucker and it's a hell of a jacket. The Seattle fit is pretty good if you're not looking for boxy cuts.

I have long coveted a Filson jacket, but I no longer live in a climate where owning one makes much sense. Sad for my sense of style, but happy for my wallet. Hey ho. However, I do have a number of their bags and luggage: Field BagTin Cloth DuffelGarment BagLuckily, found all three at some sort of discount. The duffel is the only one I'd purchase again at full price right now; the other two are a bit steep when not on sale. I do recommend all three unreservedly in terms of their quality and durability, and they just look better and better the more you beat the hell out of them.

I think Filson made a good move with the Seattle/slimmer cut of many of their items. Not only for those who want a slim fit but for those whose build is slim to begin with. Here is my older like new Filson wool vest I snagged on Ebay this summer for cheap. Summer is the time to get winter wear. Getting it out for use as we had frost the last 2 nights in Minnesota. I haven't been a vest guy but love this color and it will be great under my leather jackets when it is cold. Will also just wear over shirts on these nice fall days we have been having and inside when I get a chill.

Just got these leather gloves from Ebay and Filson merino wool liners on Sierra Trading. $45 total I had a great pair of leather Red Wing gloves and Smart Wool liners but lost them at the end of last winter. Don't even know where I lost them. I hate when that happens. They are a hair tight but have noticed leather gloves do a stretch a little. Should be fine. Good warm gloves are a must in our weather.

@winterland living in MN makes buying clothes more fun. I grew up in Northfield and would look forward to the first day I could wear my Norwegian sweater with great anticipation.

i've wanted a Filson jacket for awhile now and had been leaning towards the soy wax short cruiser or the tin cloth short cruiser. but then Gustin came along with their waxed trucker jacket and I decided to back that instead. if I were to buy a Filson coat it would have to be the tin cloth cruiser, mainly because it uses a thicker/heavier cloth, compared to the soy wax cruiser which seems cheap and flimsy to me.

It finally dropped into the 50s overnight here in TX so my tin cruiser got its first wear of the season this morning. Damn I missed this jacket.

Ugh. I still want the damned tin cloth short cruiser, but I'm nervous about the fit. There's a Filson outlet here in town and last week I tried on the tin cloth cruiser (not the short cruiser) and the arms were billowy and felt weird. I'm worried that all of their coats with the Seattle fit will be like this. Still though, the short cruiser is a very cool looking jacket

The short cruiser Seattle fit is a relatively tailored fit. I'm 6'2", 185 lbs and wear a size L which fits great over a tee shirt and a long sleeve. I've tried on the standard cruiser in the Alaska fit size L and was swimming in it. If you're under 6' or under 170 lbs you'd definitely want the M, though.

I would say if you're at least 5'10 or 5'11, 180 lbs + then a large would fit. I'm 5'11, 185 lbs and the large tin cloth cruiser fit me, it's just the sleeves were wonky.

thanks usctroll, this is helpful. I'm 6'1", 185 lbs so now I know how to size. Matt, to further confuse you, my Tin Cruiser is a 46, and at 6'2", 190lbs. the fit is perfect for me. Sleeve and overall length, is perfect, and I have room to layer a heavy wool piece under it when its cold. You probably don't have the need for layering as much, so would probably try the Seattle fit. Keep in mind that this fabric will shrink if you soak it, and then dry with some heat. Not that I'd ever put it in a washer, or dryer, but I have a pair of tin pants that were a little large, and I soaked them well, and Sun dried them with great results.

I have a short cruiser and love it. Makes a great off season jacket. I think the pocket layout is perfect. I normally wear a large (42 SC, 5'11 195) but XL works best for me in the Seattle fit. There's enough room for a light sweater under it but that's it. I Like it so much I plan on getting the "tin cloth jacket" Alaska fit so I can layer under it and use as an everyday 3 season work jacket.

I don't have the western, but I have the regular Mackinaw, and it is a staple for me this time of year. They are awesome, and I really like the 24oz. Mackinaw wool. These guys carry Filson, and if you keep an eye out, they discount their gear. Outlandusa.com
