Bump to the top. The Washington DC Filson store did a number on me this past weekend. I walked out the owner of a new waxed short cruiser jacket, vintage flannel work shirt, and a couple small accessories. I have had my eye on the Short Cruiser for awhile and while i'm always a "sale or discount code" shopper, it was the associates in the store that really made me not mind paying full retail. A quick stop by the store turned into almost 90 minutes of talking boots, denim, Filson, and all things in between. The only problem is that while i was in a frenzy my girlfriend was falling in love with the Women's Mackinaw Seattle Cruiser. For sizing, i'm 6'1", 170lbs and went with the Medium in the short cruiser and Small in the vintage flannel. Someone on the first page of this thread commented on the billowiness of the sleeves on the jacket and I do agree somewhat. But it's not distracting from the overall fit of the jacket and will make the jacket a bit easier to slide on when wearing layers. We have a Filson flagship store here in town as well as an outlet. I still would not pay full retail for their stuff. I have the waxed short cruiser and 2 of their cascade flannels and got them all on discount. Awhile ago I tried leaving a review of their cascade flannel on their site to point out that they were made in Portugal and of course they deleted it. Guess they don't want people to figure out that 'imported' means made in Portugal. Their emails are starting to annoy me too. Don't send me a promo email for your shirts with a picture of a rancher on horseback wearing your Portuguese made flannel. With that said, I do like one of my cascade flannels but their sizing is weird, as in, their stuff is made for huge guys.

I can't wear their stuff, sleeves too short. I think Filson was sold/acquired within the past two years. (Fires up search engine) Yeah, Private Equity firm. But more than 2 years ago. Sheff, Harry (June 5, 2012). "Bedrock Manufacturing Acquires Filson". Mrketplace. Business Journals. Archived from the original on July 30, 2013. Retrieved July 30, 2013. "Outdoor heritage brand Filson has been acquired by Dallas-based Bedrock Manufacturing Co. for an undisclosed amount. The sale was announced today by Filson's previous owner, the private equity group Brentwood Associates." www.revolution.com/bedrock/

the acquisition by Bedrock is old news. I'm gonna call it now....Filson will die a slow death and will eventually shutter its doors just like Cone Mills. Private equity firms are the leeches of the business world and only exist to suck the life out of once successful companies.

But it goes to the point of quality and paying full retail for a product that may be cutting corners based on it's ownership. /carry on

I'm sure a lot of their stuff is of nice quality. I quite like my short cruiser as well as my cascade flannel shirts, despite them being made in Portugal. I'm assuming their luggage is nice as well, but given a choice, i'd rather throw my dollars at a company like Vermilyea Pelle bag than a Filson. Also, Bedrock, who owns Shinola, got a lot of flack for false advertising with their watches. www.freep.com/story/money/business/2016/06/17/shinola-altering-marketing-claims-after-ftc-rebuke/86044878/. I can't say I trust a company like this that intentionally dupes customers with false advertising.
