Yeah, there's no way to judge that contest. So we so far have 5, but possibly 8. Should put up a post some where else other then just the Gustin thread. May be in the Other thread. If we're staying with the American Antiques, then I suppose it could stay within the Gustin thread. I'm not sure how many non-Gustin folks would buy a pair just to participate in this thread. Of course, if we opened it up to "New Cone denim between 12-14 oz." then perhaps it should fall outside of the G thread.

That seems like a car race where you pick your own car. Lewis Hamilton will win. Yeah, there's no way to judge that contest. So we so far have 5, but possibly 8. hmm...i think you could actually judge a choose your own. there could be no-prize categories (most interesting, highest contrast, best photo) and then a prize 'best overall' which could be voted on. the primary rule would be to post a verification photo of what they look like at the beginning to thwart any early starts. i think a contest either way is a good idea, though likely to gain more traction if people can choose their own denim.

On second thought, maybe @untucked's idea of a choose your own pair fade contest would be better as it would probably attract more participants.

I just think it'd sorta be pretty hard to have a fair contest with different weights, denim properties, fade potentials, dyes. One pair, all coming in at the same time to the purchasers ensures a pretty fair contest. EDIT: And if we have it run a year, this weight is actually a great choice since there are several hot months in there. EDIT: And I actually think it's pretty cool that it's Cone since it is sorta throwback and not what we see with most fade contests these days.

Yes. i sized up 2 in the slimz. If they come in small ill just soak them scolding while wearing and drying and then they will not touch water until superior photo with softlins in the edges, totally color corrected and with like birdsong in the background!

I like the idea of haveing as many involved as possible. So it would seem a Choose Your Own would accomplish that. We could start it come Jan 1 (that'll give everyone some time to get a pair. One year. Have different categories. It might be bit of a pain, but I think haveing a couple of judges with community votes (American Idle style). Judges offer up 3 pairs in a couple catigories for the community to vote on. No real need for prizes (but not against it), Bragging rights may be enough.
I'm just not sure if I want to buy another pair that's on my Grail list (I have enough beaters).

OK. Well then let's say if we get 10 for this contest, we'll definitely do this one. If not, we can do a choose your own adventure style and see where the chips fall. Lol.

As much as I'd like to save money and just roll big slubbers into the contest, I think it's a better idea to go with the Cone Antique. They're unsanforized so it personalizes the fading a bit, they're fairly inexpensive, and they'll be (nearly) guaranteed new at the start of the contest. I don't like having it be dependent on Gustin's seemingly haphazard unsanforized sizing issues and questionable holiday delivery timeframes. They're saying November, so delivery by January should work out. As far as prizes, I think a reasonable (*) entry fee should be used to buy something reasonable from @stevekas or stinky, or maybe a first and second prize from each. Based on interest so far, it seems like a belt would be the way to go, or if two prizes maybe a belt and simple wallet could be commissioned. * - obviously dependent on what the prizes cost, but reasonable to me for the size of the contest would be somewhere between $10-20.

Yeah. Totally agree. This is what I was thinking.

and, if we're going to open it up to any jeans, please let me know before the Cone Antique funds.

I think that was my point. I have other unworn jeans that, if I ended up being able to use them, might as well be used, as opposed to leaving them (apparently) another year.
