Not that I was even considering buying them but for the price and the almost 6 month wait (how much you wanna bet that they don't ship until January, 2016?) I think this is a huge pass.

Ouch. Considering they're untested, may have sizing issues and are months away, that's way too much.
I'd have gone in at around $150 buy now, but for $259 plus shipping and a 6 month wait, I'd rather put that towards established brands.

Lol at those prices. I can get 2 pair of clarks boots for that price locally especially if I count in the shipping and VAT.

They look good but for 259, you can almost get a pair of iron rangers.
pass pass pass.
it's sad though, they had so much potential. The black highs are about 20 dollars more than I'm willing to pay.

I woulda copped the white low tops because $150 I can swallow but waiting until October/November is insane. That's sooooo far away.

Can someone explain that to me? Forget the price, I would be nuts to put up that much money for a shoe at this price not made here...but they're selling. Maybe they only have 10 pairs of each, but who knows...

looks like widespread disapproval...
is Horween cxl #8 really worth 100 dollars more than Italian Nappa leather?

Which pair falls off the shop first? Any guesses?
Really can't wait to see the first ever "sneaker grab bag" in October.

It's a really strange thing to openly say, "Our shoes are true to size... so order a 9 if you're a 9 on a Brannock... but we don't do half sizes so order a 9 if you're a 9.5 on a Brannock"
They're either TTS, or they're not.
With shipping and duty on top, the Horween CXL #8 High Top would become hideously expensive once landed in the UK.

This is actually normal pricing for sneaker heads. I have definitely copped shoes (Jordans and Nike SBs) in the $300 range. I was hoping G would release the tanned hi tops they had pictured in an email or 2. But that October/November timeline is killer.

I'm interested in seeing how this pans out for them, but I have a feeling this sneaker venture, if it doesn't catch on, is going to hurt the company financially. I really think a brand should stick to what it does best. Aside from athletic apparel, I don't know of many companies that have made a name for themselves in both clothing and footwear.

That Horween Chromexcel upcharge is *hilarious*.
There is no way in hell Horween Chromexcel justifies a $100 markup versus another leather. At most, you're talking about $6.00 in leather which is GENEROUS at a $12.55 / square foot price. I can almost guarantee they're buying bulk so it is more like $8.00 / sq. ft. (so more like $3 in leather for the entire shoe).
I understand you can upcharge for certain types of leather (I do it for Shell Cordovan) but it is proportionate to the price that I pay for the leather. Not just a hype upcharge.

It would be perversely interesting to interview a backer to find out what bizarre decision-making process occurs to justify backing the shoes.

How much for a waterskiing shark?

So for the logistics part... Someone already pointed out that the Horween (and possibly others) leather needs to be shipped to Italy. Assuming the Horween has the longest lead time... Once the campaign gets funded, Gustin has to order the leather, and Horween delivers. That takes a bit of time. If Horween/Gustin ship by sea (most likely), that could take a month (maybe that includes time for customs). That would make it 2 months round trip just for shipping. I assume the manufacturer makes the shoes all at once.
So around a month for ordering the raw materials. ~2 months for shipping. ~2 months for actually producing the shoes.
Sounds about right?
