Pair of iron rangers 8111 in size 8.5 EE on eBay. Very good shape used. Cheap price. Where? I can't find them on a search. Also--I'm pretty bummed. I got the boots I ordered for my girlfriend today and they are way too small. The person who listed them listed them as Women's Size 8.5 Red Wing Iron Rangers. They were listed in the women's shoe section. Earlier that day, we had tried on a pair of 8.5 WOMEN's IRs at a Women's shoe store. They were tagged 8.5. They fit great. Today, the boots we received were marked a size 5, and actually Men's shoes. Needless to say, they were about a full size too small. Not only that, but they are scuffed and have a few small, black, spots on the toe and a place where the sole has a defect where it meets the leather. They were listed as new on EBay. The seller is claiming that Red Wing doesn't make Women's shoes (don't know if this is true or not) and that a men's size 5 is equivalent to a Women's 8.5. The problem with this is that that's just not true. That sizing is off. Also, Red Wings run a full size big, so a women's 8.5 is a 7.5 in Red Wings. I feel like she misrepresented the shoes as being Women's 8.5 when they were actually a Men's 5. This was not noted in the listing, and the shoes were listed in Women's shoes. Beyond that, her attempt at converting the shoe size was wrong, and she was misleading about the condition of the shoes. I asked for a refund and even offered to pay for return shipping to her. She responded by calling me ignorant, a liar, and refusing my request. I've filed a claim with Paypal, but I'm worried I'll get screwed over here. Girl is bummed out too as she was looking forward to these. Hopefully Paypal gives me my money back and I can return the item. If not, does anyone want to buy a pair of 8111's in fairly good condition in Men's size 5 (women's size 7.5-8?).

But I'm pretty sure you should be able to get a refund if you file a grievance with eBay. And I think women's sizes are 1.5 higher than men's sizes. Unless you're taking know account the size a full size down with Red Wings.

She was asking $250 for them and I offered 180, she countered with $200 by sending me an invoice for payment on Paypal. Paypal buyer protection should cover me the same as Ebay though. I had her reference the size and Ebay auction # in the invoice. And yeah I agree, a size 6.5 or 7 should in Men's should equate to an 8.5 in Women's.

If you've got a nordstrom rack closeby, it's a great place to hunt for Red Wing, and some 1000 mile once in a while too. Got a pair of RW moc toe for $109 last month, and had to resist a pair of black chukkas for the same price yesterday. Kicking myself for not picking up the pair of roughout moc toes I saw for $80 right after I got the same style in a different leather.

I do have a Nordstrom rack 4 miles away.
They had some light tan rough out red wing moc toes for $69 near Christmas they were ugly. Also some atomic orange looking distressed color. Like an 875 but ugly.
Clark's too are cheap $69. John Varvatos converse for $50.
Solid place

For those of you with Iron Rangers, do you wear them Ienne there's snow and ice? How do the soles do with moisture in general? I really like the look of them but figured I'd have problems in the Chicagoland winter with them.

They hold up fine but the sole is super slick.

Yeah. Wisconsin winters are serious and those soles are comfortable but a death trap on ice.

Suck, I was afraid of that. I avoid wearing my AE McAllisters during the winter for that exact reason. So does the Beckman sole work or do I need to be looking at something with a full Vibram sole?

I have Beckmans and BB Strands/Fifth Aves with the vibrant soles. They don't fare that much better on slick surfaces compared to their leather counterparts. Only difference is, and a big plus for me, the soles don't look torn up after a couple wears.

A true commando sole is great. Or like an ice cutter RW sole.

My pair of iron rangers lasted me 6 months. I'll never buy them again. what happened to them at the 6 month mark? mine took nearly that long just to break in. mine are coming up on the 2 yr mark and are holding up amazingly well. i like them a bit more each time i wear them (3-4 days/wk through spring/autumn/winter, 1-2 days/wk through summer)

My pair of iron rangers lasted me 6 months. I'll never buy them again. I second that. It's a pretty strong statement what happened? Pictures or explain etc. I've had mine since 2013. Wearing a ton, motorcycle duties, yard work etc. No issues at all.

Could just be a troll. Hates slim tapered denim, untucked shirts, and now Red Wing.

That, and from what I recall, I think red wing probably would have worked with him to resolve a pair that failed that quickly. Unless they were worn everyday on abrasive floor surfaces, and the purchaser were unaware they could be resoled.

well duh...you're not supposed to keep pencils in your boots.
from the looks of that photo...those were either used for the most hard-core work ever or those are much older than 6 months old. the leather is very aged, the front of the sole worn to the point of rounding, and obviously sole coming off. i really have no idea what the pencil is doing in the boot, but it wouldn't have caused the issue since that welt seam is completely ripped open.
if those are indeed 6-months old (which is doubtful), that's really premature wear unlike any i've seen and i'm sure red wing would have taken care of it.

If we're not going to go into any details, mind sharing what you've replaced them with?

Hawthorne Muleskinner came in today, I think the size works but they're holding on pretty tight in the middle of the foot so I'm thinking a wider size might be good. I've also read this is often the case when they're new and that it'll break in as the boots do.
Also, this appears and feels like it's made out of the horween Essex Gustin has been using for accessories. Anyone know if red wing does a "smooth-out" version in iron rangers or beckmans?
