I'd kind of like to have a pair of those cabelas even though I have no reason to. Kangaroo leather is typically limited to soccer shoes (football boots), it'd be nice to have a pair of boot boots. I had meant to link to a pair of the Browning boots but they don't seem to be for sale new anymore. Discontinued? The Cabela's seem to be modeled after the Browning and Red Wing originals. Only thing I can find are on eBay. Seems they were named Featherweight and The Sportsmen Boot at different times. I almost purchased a pair of the Cabelas and then found a good deal on a pair of Filson hunting boots. Would of went for a pair of Red Wing Hunting boots but couldn't find as good of a deal.

Are all RW boots stupidly hard to put on? Just got a pair of Roughnecks and the tongue gusset is sewn so far up its like putting on ski boots. I've had a few knee surgeries and this is extremely annoying. My Wolverines are nothing like this. Debating razoring a cm or two of the gusset out. Is this how all of their boots are?

My red wing iron rangers are super broken in and slide right on. Break in can be a bitch but that's really all leather boots.

Thanks, the boots are actually extremely comfortable after just a few hours wear, but the putting on part remains horrible. Just so very different than my Wolverines or past Vasques, which are even made by RW. Oh well, time to put a ton of hours into them and see if it gets better before unsheathing the xacto.

A few weeks of wear have made the tongue much easier to deal with. These things are now much more comfortable than my Wolverines. It may be as simple as Vibram sole vs flat leather, but my Wolverines are very easy to feel the welt in while these have a much more comfortable foot bed. Definitely digging them, glad I have a nice sole for snow and ice and it's 77 here today.

My Beckmans have gotten better but yes are still a pain to put on if I don't loosen the laces a lot. I like my Whites semi dress better in this aspect as they have speed hooks on the top 2. Much easier to put on as the top two are loose.

I can now, but it's still not easy...

But many good boots take some effort and are worth it in the long haul.

So I was cleaning my Red Wings, and I thought I'd take some rocks out of the tread... Then I got to a stubborn rock! I used a screwdriver to try to dislodge it. Long story short, I accidentally partially deconstructed my boot by pulling a nail out of it. Moral: I am an idiot.

If you're willing to risk the ridicule, you could find a shoe person and have them replace the nail. I'd probably do it myself and accidentally punch it through the insole.

I checked, and there are ten other nails, and the sole feels secure, so I decided I'm just going to forget about it. Hopefully I won't develop a weird gait due to the fact one foot is heavier than the other.

^ man that first pic is just......WTF is that green rag of a top?
Anyways, yeah, it appears that these only work well with straight cut jeans.
My MiC ropers fit under all my tapered jeans and do not look like the first picture you posted, which is just a bad look.

Agreed, looks terrible with tapered jeans. Pecos have a really wide shaft. Wider than my Justin Roper boots.

Nordstrom Rack had a big sale/restock of RW factory seconds yesterday. Didn't last long as the reddit /mfa hive mind jumped all over it.

There are a lot of things I like about Red Wing, but my favorite might be that I get stuff delivered the day after I order it. Like I ordered something yesterday around lunch and it will be waiting for me when I get home from work today. I didn't even pay for the fancy shipping, just the regular ol' free shipping. That said, I do live about 60 miles from Red Wing, so you're results may vary.
