The amber harness should darken up a bit as they wear, especially once they hit the point of needing conditioned. Mine are quite a bit darker now (with an interesting ring of indigo transfer)

My 1178 Pecos boots were the same sad brown as the IR brogues a year ago and now they look like amber harness. In a year amber harness will be broken in and looming perfect.

I have the same indigo ring transfer. I'm debating whether to attempt to remove it... with saddle soap.

Just a little update on my IRs.I figured out that the discomfort is the concrete floors at work. After about an hour of walking at work, the really high pressure areas on the bottom of my feet start to hurt, but as soon as I'm off of it the pain goes away. They are getting better even on the hard floor. Otherwise, they've become the most comfortable boots I've ever had on my feet. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction on my first quality boot purchase brothers I freaking love these boots!

Thanks @winterland I do have a pair of those Dr Scholls that you stand on that machine gizmo thingy and it tells you what ones to get. I tried them at first, but made the boot feel kinda tight. Maybe I should try them again, now that the leather is broken in pretty good. I do plan on going back to my old work boots soon (also Red Wings) and wearing my IR casually. My job is great for breaking in jeans and boots

I was curious if that effects the forming of the cork insole.

I was curious if that effects the forming of the cork insole. I had the same concern, which is why I avoided using any inserts for a while. I did try the inserts I mentioned, and it did make a big difference. Much more comfortable, but it does make the uppers, across the top of my foot tighter. So I'm probably going to forgo the inserts for a while. When I try them again, I'll go with something thinner.

I'm very confused about all the different sizings. I wear a 9 in Wolverine 1000 mi. They feel great but look a bit "dainty". I tried on IRs in 10eee and they fit great in the store. I liked the Beckmans better when I looked at my feet, but needed 10.5 because of width. Went with an ebay deal on the Beck's, but now I'm worried....I guess I can put an insole in if they're too big, right?

My Wolverines are size 9 and fit comfortably, but my Beckmans are also size 9, and they are a bit long, and should have gotten size 8.5. My AEs are 9.5Ds.

Hmmm, when I tried them on at the RW store they said 10eee for Rangers, and I remember the Beck's being narrower...... Oh crap, I might've screwed up.... A nice pair of Beckmans in 10.5 might be up for sale soon. :-(

I suppose there could be some variance with sizing from shoe to shoe of the same size and model. I do know the Beckmans are stiffer and I suppose would feel tighter in width. They need more breaking in than the 1000 Mile. You will have to see how they fit when they arrive.

Hi guys, my Beckmans finally arrived! I have some questions though, so hopefully I can get your opinions...
1) They're the right length but they're pretty thin. I have flat feet, so I'm worried that my foot will hang over the inside a bit. I'm actually kind of used to it, since I've had flat fee for a long time, but these shoes are slightly skinnier than others I have. Anybody else deal with something like this? Thoughts?
2) I have some obenauf's lp... should I lp them up now, or wait until they need it? If it matters, in in the Pacific NW, so there's more rain here than snow.
3) I guess that's all for now, thanks!

That could be what you are experiencing. They could also just be too narrow for you. If you ordered your normal width, I would think you should be ok. I treated mine as I am in wet and snow. If you are in wet conditions, some conditioning should be ok and could help the break in process. If yours are anything other than black you will get some color change. Hopefully the fit works out. I wear mine often.

Turns out I screwed up on sizing. The 10.5 were way too big. I went into a Redwing store with my regular socks, and turns out that a 9.5 fits me well. That makes more sense. Boots are now gone to fund a new jacket purchase (Aero). Hope this one fits better than the boots ;-)

Ah, I bought them from an online store and didn't get width options, so I guess I should have gone with wide. (This is the first time I've bought shoes nice enough to come with widths...) Guess I get to try to sell them now!

Guess I get to try to sell them now! My point was if you normally wear D width shoes and that is what the Beckmans are, I would think they should work. Are they so tight they are uncomfortable in the width?

When I went into the store, they explained that Red Wing offers a 30 day no questions asked return policy as well as care and maintenance for the lifetime of the boot. Unless you got a great deal, I'd go directly through Red Wing.

Rhode Island decided it was a good idea to put sales tax on clothing over $250. Basically it's better to buy walmart junk than high quality clothing since you just get taxed for it.

I got them at notreshop at a discount; I think I paid $227 for them. So I probably can't return them to Red Wing?
And I guess I do normally wear a D, since I never checked widths before. That's agood point: if I widened it up, it might be too wide in my toes and heel. (I don't really have wide feet, just flat ones...)

As long as they're in resellable condition, you can talk to the manager of a Red Wings store if they'd be willing to swap them.

Good call, maybe I'll run by a Red Wings store today. I put them on for literally 10 seconds, so they're in pristine condition.

keep in mind that they'll stretch a bit as well. if they're just a bit snug through the forefoot i'd expect a bit of stretch and consider keeping them. if they're tight to the point of discomfort...then you should probably explore your options with returning/selling.
