Somewhere to post our DIY bits and pieces (don't think we already have a thread for this?) Made my first wallet today My patterns needs a couple of modifications and the leather sucks so I think I'll be redoing it in natural Kangaroo of the passport and card holders above (3 and 1 years old respectively, the passport holder obviously gets much less use )

I made coasters once my gf made me throw them away.
Slate tiles Cork bottom piece Glaze so they repell water.
Got the idea from some expensive store and made them for 1/4 the price.

New belt to take traveling! Both are made from 4 and half mm, natural, oak bark tanned leather from J FJ Baker. Apparently one of the only tanneries left using oak bark The original is about 18 months old, but only really got wear on the weekends and holidays There was plenty of life left in the old one but it was the first belt I ever made and was pretty shit, plus I had to go to 1.5" to fit nicely through LD's patches

More of an alteration. A pair of Converse70's Chucks. Got a good deal on them and thought I'd experiment. First, Bleached (1 to 3parts water for a couple hours) Then a soak in a indigo vat (10-15 min). You can get the indigo kit for about $15 Now the fun part. When removed they are almost lime green but darken up to indigo in about 10 min Give a couple of good rinses and chose your laces

I thought the same thing. I was going to use these as my beaters, so perfect for mowing the lawn. But 10 minutes in the air and they wherea nice clean indigo. Hard to use as beater now (but I still may). Let me add. You see in the video that they came out of the vat splotchy. That's becouse I didn't remove the "flower" on top (the bubbles). All I did was wipe them down with a wet cloth. The splotches just wiped off or smoothed out. http://instagram.com/p/2HY9lzGdJp

Anyone tried this before? Yes. It makes 4 Gallons. When you take your jeans out, don't let the dripping go back into the vat. Have a second container to let the it run/drip into. Indigo reacts with air. So as it drips it's exposed to air. If it drips back into the vat it weakens it for any other item you want to dye.

So I've wanted a $200+ TenderCo. Belt for some time but can't bring myself to pay that much for a belt ($200+ for a shirt or jeans but not for a belt that I'd wear everyday.? Go figure:) What I like about the belt is not only the leather but the buckle. So I decided to make one. This is my second attempt. Had to bend it with a torch and pliers. My son will be making a jig in a few months in shop. So it should get better. It's made with 4gauge solid copper wire. Then fumed with Anomia and Salt to age it.

Blued up a bit more after it dried. I had rinsed it. I vote you make these belt buckles. That would look amazing on my Gustin heavy weight.

Waiting for my son to make up a jig so I'll be able to make them a little easier. Been wearing this one for the past few weeks. I'll need to spray it with some sort of Poly/urethane as the Blueing has worn away. I want to make and wear a raw copper to see how it'll age.

I'll need to spray it with some sort of Poly/urethane as the Blueing has worn away. I want to make and wear a raw copper to see how it'll age. I like the blue, but I think a lot of the guys here would prefer the raw shiny-ass copper and letting it patina through wear. The one thing I'm finding about copper is that it sort of turns grey, but it shines right back up. I'm letting the piece I have in my edc just keep going, though I'm thinking of getting rid of the steel clip that is rubbing against it and trying to find nylon or something cause it's grinding away at the copper which gives me a slight frowny-face. Since the dude did some great work I like to promote him, unfortunately the copper was a kickstarter exclusive, I think they ended up costing a lot more than anticipated to produce, if people want I can take a picture of my clip later today. Anyway, here's a link and here's a pic of the titanium version:

I figure I'd do that next if it doesn't look right. Then if that doesn't look right I'd otter wax it.
