Where did you get your kakishibu, DigDug? EDIT: And do you have to add any bicarb or anything like that into the dye, or just the dye and water? EDIT 2: I'm thinking of either doing a straight kaki dye like you, depending on how yours turns out, or a bleach and then kaki dye. Then I will do an indigo overdye over that so when the indigo wears, the kaki color will show through.

I'm using the powder, mixed it in a couple Gal. of water. And soaking a couple of times.

DigDug whiskeyriver We are in Monument Valley, UT and spent part of the day in the hogan of a Native American woman and watched her make a type of yarn from raw sheep's wool. I was going to ask her to make me a pair of jeans but I didn't want to be disrespectful even though it was a joke.

Then every time I see it I'm reminded of that day.

KAKISHIBU TIME!!! HAHA. Great minds. I got one of these in the grab bag, and I'm probably going to overdye in indigo. Tellason must've had a surplus of these unsold jackets. Seen a few on Fleabay as well.

I think a lot of us got it in the Grab Bag. Anyone know what the smaller slanted pocket is for?

This is Son of Stag's description - "Slanted small chest pocket which will fade through the newspaper pocket beautifully" I guess it's only for Fades

Just an update on the Kakishibu jacket. I didn't think I had enough product, so instead of brushing on a stronger mixture I made a weaker tub and soaked/dried the jacket 3 times. Came out nice. Not as clean/bright/neutral of a color that it was. If you use the soaking method, make sure your solution is fully mixed. I seem to have a few small spots where the Kakishibu didn't mix.

My goodness, I'm totally going to seem like a copycat lol! I just got in 2 liters of kakishibu and I'm totally gonna paint my MF Watchman jacket as my first project. I love the jacket, but the yellow is REALLY yellow..... TOO yellow, lol.
Right now, I'm considering waxing the pockets to give it an awesome 2-tone look

I had to use a watered down Kakishibu (didn't have enough and didn't want to buy more). So I made a vat and soaked Instead of brushing on a heavier solution. It knocked down the yellowish tone but didn't darken it up a whole lot. I also did a chambray shirt. It didn't change it at all. Not sure why. Good luck.

Just painted on a non-diluted coat on the throat latch of my Watchman jacket, because I don't like that piece really, anyway. If it turns out terrible, no harm/no foul. After this dries, I will let it chill on the dashboard of my car for a currently unknown period of time... I guess an "I'll know it when I see it" kinda thing. In the meantime, a neck this out, guys... It's my inspiration: bandanna-almanac.com/2013/11/25/jackknife-outfitters-kurashiki-canvas-kakishibu/

The jacket is a little darker but not the dried tobacco color I was hoping. The shirt didnt change at all. May have been to weak of a solution. Just ordered some indigo dye. So I'll do that next to the jacket and then I'll wax it (all for science

I plan on taking my jacket to the tanning salon, and putting it in the strongest one for the longest time allowed

@untucked how's the Big Bird project going? Did the test come out to your liking? I'd like to see the entire jacket before and after.

I actually just applied a second coat of kakishibu and then I'll play the waiting game for 2 weeks. Btw, I posted a pic of what I'm doing to IG and Christope Loiron himself thinks it's a great idea. Apparently, he had wanted to do a kakishibu item in the Sea Hunt collection, but as we all know kakishibu is a time consuming process Also I am thinking to swap out these crappy nylon button loops for 550 paracord..... Haven't decided just yet tho

Olive drab paracord would look amazing with the kakishibu, but I think that's going to be a pretty difficult swap, or at least not as easy as it may seem to keep a professional looking result.

Apparently not, since he's giving it a kakishibu treatment.
