No issues yet. I've got the N55 engine they switched to in 2011 as opposed to the N54 with all the issues you read about. I love the torque that hits at about 2.5K RPM and pretty much never goes away. Plus not turbo lag you get with some of the other forced inductions out there. Really fun car. Had both motors, they both have serious carbon build up. Best to do a SeaFoam or walnut shell cleaning every 15-30k miles. The N55 is a bit of a let down after the N54 (HPFP failures excluded). I'm hoping the B48 is a solid step forward. If we don't do a Macan, the 4GC is tempting, especially if they do an M440i version.

I've only had the one so I can't really compare. I know there's a lot of similar sentiment out there echoing what you've stated regarding being let down. As far as the issues go, I'm more concerned about the wastegate problems that seemed to plague the N54 that don't seem to be an issue (yet) with the 54. I'll never quite understand why they are moving from their tried and true NA inline 6.
Also, from what I understand about carbon buildup is that it tends to go hand in hand with DI cars. Not specific to BMW or 335i. I'm no mechanic, though. Hell, I don't even play one on TV. :-D

Arg, that second 54 should've been a 55.

I push for turbo but she thinks S is fast enough as a grocery getter. PASM/AS a must. She got the 21" but I think 20" is best and she is regretting now due to ride comfort. Don't go smaller because 19" tires are too skinny. Nav is useless and must go with leather. She went with full leather but I think it makes very little differece. I always go with 18 ways seat but she picked the 14 for the Macan. They are wider seats, less sporty but more comfortable. Usual on all p-car's and price can go crazy after options. For S, I recommend to keep under 80 and turbo under 100. Or depreciation can get pretty ugly. Paint is soft on all p-car, so xpel and opti-coat are good option if you go black color (all my cars are black). good luck and Macan is a lovely car. (Back to my hole)

Eureka! I'm not going to spend money on clothing this year. That way I can buy a 1st gen Camaro.
Man I just want an old car. I'm sick of these plastic cars with too many creature comforts.

OTOH, having grown up and cut my teeth on fast and straight was this before you were in ca? (aren't you originally from back east?) one thing i miss about california is spirited driving through the bends of the foothills Back East, in central PA. 69 Mach 1 and a 69 Z/28. Cars #1 and #2. High school. I now appreciate cars that also handle, and they are no longer mutually exclusive. Still, HP is my love - specifically, torque.

Nice! My favorite color for both. Was the Rx7 an R1?
I know you don't want to talk about it, but got anything fun now?

Larger intercooler, downpipe, Trust exhaust, BOV, computer..... on and on..... Umm..... the current car. four door hybrid coupe (lease is ending in couple months).... not bad but HUGE. Not fun in my book. Cannot get third car because I never let my car sit outside and we have no third garage in my house today. Wife also refuses to sit in a long list of cars due to whatever reasons. Very limited choice for me. (back to my hole)

Any top gear fans? Season 22 is TEN (!!!) episodes long and started yesterday, in case you've missed it. They've also dropped the one week delay for BBC America broadcast. Also, Clarkson and crew signing for another three years, so it looks like they've made it through the controversy. again.

My gf made a comment about upgrading to a bigger house instead of buying a corvette z06. I quickly shut that down. I don't need 3000sq/ft for a single guy with no kids.

Can't wait for Tesla to build their smaller sedan. I've been debating the updated Volt for a daily since I would almost never need to buy gas for it. But a pure electric with similar range would be great.
We have a fair amount of wind power in Texas, so it's not too silly to run an electric car down here.

The day I buy a hybrid or electric car I think my soul will die. Or a minivan.

The day I buy a hybrid or electric car I think my soul will die. Or a minivan. Have you driven one? To be fair, the i3 I drove is about 1100 pounds lighter than a Volt (and rwd), but the instant torque, lack of need to use the brakes and linear power delivery is pretty fun. Now, that 80 mile range... I think I'm also influenced by having had a neighbor with an early Tesla Roadster. Little thing was fun and stupidly quick at legal speeds. For daily driver needs, the Volt seems great for me now that it has a center rear seat and can go 50 miles on electrons. Plus it's cheap enough to leave room for a fun weekend car with the proper amount of pedals. I've determined that sedans and fun don't mix.

Did you see my post on the first page? I love hatchbacks. The random list of cars I'm looking at right now are the Volt, GTI/GTD/Golf R, Mazda3 5 door or a Mini 5 door. All sadly driven from the un-fun end. The i3 is a long shot if they up the range ever.
For my wife, it's either a 435i Gran Coupe or a Macan.
Everyone of those is a hatch. I'd buy an M135i 5 door right now if we could get it here in the US. An S3 5 door would work too, provided it had the right number of pedals. The Golf R will work once they get around to manuals over here but I love the new wagon version.
Hell, if the BRZ were a hatch, I'd strongly consider just hoisting the kid seat over the back each time and get one of those.

I'll let the bugs get figured out, range increase, but the price is nuts or at least was. Prius vs base model corolla you would never break even on the gas saving.

Not really a fan of the Prius, but it is a completely different size than the Corolla and offers a hatch.
I think we're just starting to see the real benefit of batteries in cars. They're comically priced, but the Porsche 918, McLaren P1 and Ferrrari Ferrarri Ferrari are all signs of what a hybrid powertrain can offer and each can move on electric power alone (up to a point). The BMW i8 and the Acura NSX are the first trickle down of that sort of technology and it won't be long until it hits more reasonable price points.
The thing that makes me mad is that this technology doesn't really meld well with manuals, but many current engines with turbos, tons of low end torque and no real benefit from high revs are already making manuals less than fun and also less efficient.

Drive one if you haven't, this new gen is supposed to be a huge leap and that's saying something with the GTI pedigree. I love mine to death and it's only been 3 weeks.

I intended to wait on the R, but the slow rollout and DSG only is trying my patience. A GTI with the Performance Pack and LSD would probably suffice, plus I can get it with the plaid seats, unlike the R.

I almost bought a 1988 GTI when I was 17 but it was a rot box. Ended up buying a mitsubishi Gst and never looked back. After a ton of mitsubishi's I ended up going V8 american. I wonder how life would be different with a VW.
That said I've never liked "VW kids"
