I'm getting another pair of Rancourt booys made within the next few months. Little secret: they dye their own shells. That made me ask customer service if I can get a pair of boots made with undyed shell, and they told me yes. I'm thinking a 5 eyelet handsewn with full leather soles. (Pictured is the same style boot, mocked up in "caramel" shell.) For the kind of money, I am fine spending on Rancourt but unsure I will go with this style of boots that looks to be "very casual". I don't see any style on the Rancourt custom build website that I want to build with shell. Maybe they are just not my style. 0.02.

Not even the Blake boots? The pair above is what my first build pair came to be. And, I prefer the Rancourt style. I'm make casual than dressy as of lately, so it's perfect for me. It's hard to find casual shell footwear Attachments:

Utters hard to fund casual shell this one I like.... the picture in the custom tool doesn't do the Blake boots justice and the website makes the shoe toe a lot more round. Have you seen any real life photo of the Rancourt 5 eyes boots in shell? Need better picture than the one from the website.

But don't worry, once I pull the trigger on them, you'll have plenty of pics to reference. I like the boot design, and I like shell. However goot it looks in smooth calf, suede or buckaroo, I have faith that it will be 10x better in shell.

Please make sure showing us some pictures when you have them.

choosing a boot can be very difficult process because of features and styles. Before buy , we must decide what kind of and which features. We have many strong brands in the market like timberland , Cat , thorogood, ken...etc. I found this site and has great reviews www.bootratings.com/

Probably. I didn't click on the link since reading that grammar made me think "Monty" has tourettes.

I'm looking for a pair of Chelsea boots in the $300 - 400 range. The Red Wings look pretty nice but I wanted to get a few other options before I pull the trigger.

Have you taken a look at the Dappered.com article on Chelsea boots? It was written in the fall of last year, but I assume most of them are still available.

have ordered a pair of Frye's Walter at "Zalando" (the Central European "Amazon" for shoes and clothes) for the equivalent of USD 170.- .... unfortunately they mixed up the sizes (I'm a UK 10, they sent me US 11.5, perhaps US 11 would have been fine) and their business policy is "no change", i.e. if you're not happy with the shoe send it back and get reimbursed ...
my first impression was: neat construction (as far as I could see), soft quite thick leather, hard enough sole (leather) in my humble opinion below USD 200 it's a best buy, below USD 250 a good buy and up to USD 300 an ok buy - I would however not recommend spending more than USD 300 on these
please note, that I could only wear them on a carpet and wooden floor and only twice for a short time (as I knew from beginning I would be sending them back) ... usually you should wear a shoe (especially a boot) at least a hundred times before you make a final judgement ....
