Viberg Service boot is right up my ally but I will NOT spend $7-$800 on a boot when I can grab White's for half the price. White's to me is the best bang for your buck when it comes to looks & being a shit kicking boot. Would I love to own a pair of Vibergs...100% but its White's for now You've got my vote for White's. I have a couple pair, and they are exceptionally made, and their arch for me is the most comfortable in any boot I have found.

I have a couple pair, and they are exceptionally made, and their arch for me is the most comfortable in any boot I have found. My 1st experience with White's was a ebay buy where the seller had a pair of boots listed like this --->AMAZING BROWN LEATHER VIBRAM WORK BOOTS / QUABAUG HEELS - 11 1/2 D - NEW . I was amazed at how great they looked & had no idea what they were. I ended up not buying them but later noticed the listing ended without anyone bidding on them. I messaged the seller & said I would pffer $85 which he accepted. I got them & was shocked at the damn weight & construction of them so I posted them on the Iron Heart forum which got people going nuts because they knew what they were....WHITES SD WATER BUFFALO . Basically I scored a $500 pair of boots for $67 plus shipping Total $85 True story

That was the Ebay score of the year there. Good eye. I got a good deal on my Beckmans and White's semi-dress but not that good.

A friend just sent this pic of me with my boy and reminded me that I love my Redwing Pecos so much. They're really great boots, not from the heritage line but still made in the USA. Or you can tuck in your jeans and rock it bullrider style like my boy.

Just picked up a very lightly used pair (said they were worn once and I believe him) of the Alden/J Crew Chromexcel Indy boots. Look and feel even better in person. So comfortable right out of the gate. Gave em a nice first day break in brewing a double IPA (heady topper clone) on a snotty, rainy northeast Saturday afternoon. I read that chromexcel is great in rainy weather and I agree firsthand. Anyone eyeing these, take the plunge, they're well worth it. Especially if you can get em at a discount, like I did.

I have a pair of Cole Haan which look nearly identical that I bought a long time ago (for WAAAAY more than you paid) when I knew nothing about boots.
Yours appear to be light years ahead in terms of quality and construction.

Here's my favorites. Frye Prison Boot. US made. These have about 8 months casual use. They were slow to break in but are molding well to my feet. They are the longest continuous maker in America, 151 years.

One of my enduring fave rockers, Jim Doors, loved 'em too. Dig these Prison Boots!

I'll get a chance to visit their store in Chicago next month. I'll be trying the Engineers for sure.

I'm torn. I'm looking to get a black boot. I have the brown 1K Courtland and love them. I also have the Red Wing black cherry Beckmans, and don't love them so much. (I'm thinking of selling the Backmans to put toward the new pair of black boots.) So, I'm torn between getting black 1K Courtlands or getting a pair of black Alden Indys. As far as I can tell, both have Horween CXL leather uppers. The Indys have a leather lining and steel shank, but come with a leather sole. The Courtlands have a rubber half sole, but no lining or steel shank. So I'm not sure if the Indys are worth the extra bill and a half plus a resole or if I should stick with something I know I like. Any thoughts?
(The Beckmans are 9.5 US with about 30 wearings, if anyone is interested PM me for picks)

@david any experience with the quality of the seconds? Just wondering what exactly qualifies something as a second for Alden? Yep, totally missed that the black comes with a neo-cork outsole.

Yep, totally missed that the black comes with a neo-cork outsole. no 1st hand experience...though i did get on the list myself (not sure if i'll end up with 2nds since my ideal pair is natural cxl with a commando sole...which may be a rare find) i have read about many people getting 2nds where no blemishes were found. the worst i've seen is one person that posted a photo of some discolored leather, but shoemart emailed him prior to sending to confirm if he wanted them due to the severity of that issue.

I have lots of love for red wing. 2 pairs of boots and 1 pair of oxfords. I love IR. I have 1ks too and love them too but always fall back on IR. My next step is secretly buying indys and adding them to the collection before the wife notices.
