I am a little worried about the buttons holding up on the fly. ickes knows I'm hard on crotches. No spare buttons from G I wonder if they will send some if requested The buttons don't seem to hold up well. I have two I need to sew back on before they fall off and they put a ton of force at specific points. I sized up my last two pair because my navies are showing some serious strain after a dozen wears. Great. They do look flimsy.

Can someone explain the logic behind the Super Light Chino offerings? They are a lighter weight fabric than many of the other Gustin chino offerings yet their price point is just as expensive. What gives?

weight isnt the only factor in price. that said, the super light chinos don't look very special either. my next chinos will be cianos 18oz

Got a shipping notice last night for my first pair of G chinos, the #2 American graphite. USPS says it will be delivered on Monday, just in time for when I get back from the wedding I'm at this weekend. I'm excited. The reason I got hooked on G and this forum was looking for a pair of American made chinos since that's what I wear to work 95% of the time. I hope I got my fit right......

So I'm thinking I'm going to use up my store credit on a pair of Gustin Chinos. I don't own any and I'm looking for some advice on the sizing (I know it's probably been talked about but I don't feel like reading through). do they sew up on par with the jeans? Would you guys recommend going with my Gustin jean size on the Chinos? Also...for some reason a Chino in a slim fit just doesn't seem right to me but maybe it will work...do you guys like the slim fit or straight fit better for the Chinos?
I wear my Chinos in a more work wear/rugged style, not cubicle/office style, so I'm looking for one of the duck canvas chinos or possible the military twill chinos. Any recommendations?

I ordered the same size as my jeans and the chinos fit PERFECT. It's a modern cut so they are a touch more trim around the calves which i like.

My advice for the chinos is either size up or up the fit, and go off your true waist rather than your normal Gustin size. so if you wear a 34 slim, either go 34 straight, or 35 slim. They say they're roomier than the jeans, but this is completely contrary to my experience. You have to also figure that you're going to be washing these more often (on a per wear ratio) than the jeans, and they don't shrink much unless you're trying to shrink them (I did a hot wash and dry on my 35 straight chinos to take them from being my fat-pants to being something I'll wear). I'd recommend getting the heavy twill from Gustin, since you can get the duck from Ciano and have less worry about sizing issues (since you can work them out with him), and have more fabric variety. His have a much more rugged appearance, though (which I think works well with the canvas), so the Gustin are going to be a more "dressed-up" look if that's a concern.

Gustins chinos are amazing. Honestly a better value for the money than the jeans are. Seriously. I have the heavy caramel and camel herringbone both are casual.
I would do the brown duck or heavy coffee the navy or like a basic khaki prob isn't your gig.

Buyer beware that my brown ducks couldn't make it through the wash on gentle without getting horribly discolored. I still love their chinos though, and back pairs regularly. I agree that they're a better value than (most/all) of the jeans.

I agree with Brentkuz. I have navy, graphite; heavy Carmel chinos, brown canvas, and desert canvas. I love them all but I would say they are as slim or even more slim than my denim size (33 slim). I still order the same and they fit in a way I love. If you want more room sizing up (in my experience) might be better.

For the heavy caramel and camel herringbones I went 36slim. They fit well but a tad tsa tight in my huge calf region.

Did anyone else have issue with the duck canvas? I'm still too chicken to wash my duck jeans from Ciano, but they're likely the same mill.

I had already backed a portion of these that haven't locked sizing yet. If a 36 slim is a pretty perfect fit for me in the jeans, snug but not tight and nice and slimming, should I go up to 37 slim in chinos?

Nah I'd stick with 36 slim in chinos. My 36 slim jeans were kinda tight in the calf from the get. Some were better but some were too tight. I'm a convert to 36 straight.
My heavy caramel chinos really came in weird. 33.5" inseam and 16" cuff instead of 16.25" so they do sew up semi small.

My 32 slim graphites sewed up small in the legs, but the waist is basically spot on. They fit me really well but are a bit more snug on my legs than I would like. It they were to spec, I think they would be perfect. But, I seem to recall that most of the chinos have sewed up on the small end of spec. I'm debating a 32 regular for my next pair because I don't want the waist to get bigger. The only thing giving me pause is the higher rise. The chinos are great overall. They are perfect for the office I work in. I wear wool pants ~twice a month for exec reviews, but otherwise it's cotton.

Mine 36 slim jeans ("The Regular") are fairly snug in the thighs, perfect in the waist, plenty of room in the calf. Still get 36 slim in chinos you think?

I'd do a quick measurement check and make sure your jeans came in on spec, but if the slim is loose in the calf, I think you'd feel like the straights are boot cut.

The thigh is basically the same between my 36 straight and slim jeans it's the rise and calf that really are different.
