For $300, I'd want spacific measurements on a pair. blueowl will give you measurements from pairs they have in your requested size. i've had them do that for two pairs in the past...really terrific service.

Do measurements on unsanfo'd really help? im just assuming Denimio will be about $100 cheaper on both, so will likely go that route.

I like wearing items that have a history/story/conversation piece. Oddly these would have that. "What Jeans are those?" my Sargent Schultz "I know nothing, Nothing!"

Yeah, I just mean fine differences between pairs. I can see where that would make a difference if you're cutting it close though.

You've got to love the denim "elitists". They get so butt hurt when they are left out of the loop. Yet, they'll be the first ones gushing if these "masters" turn out to be legit. Tools..... It's also weird because BOW is the first B&M to carry Tanuki and it doesn't get anymore legit than that, especially when you look at the brands they carry. If Jay is carrying Tanuki then you kinda know they're the real deal. Don't know why people are getting their knickers in a twist about it

"If you want my money, you have to tell me everything I want to know!"
The backstory is cool, and VERY Japanese, and the product looks GREAT.
Me personally, I think too much reveal will ruin it.

I am glad I read this post because The last time I was in the Blue Owl shop. One of the guys was talking about a new line of denim they where going to be carrying. I could not remember the name of the brand. I do remember them saying that it is a new brand of denim from the guys that owned one of the first Japanese denim brands? I thought maybe the people that started Canton or Evisu? I Think I remember the guy's saying that one of Owners of this brand has been in retirement from the denim world but came back to start up this new brand. Now the funny part for me is having been in Japan The Tanuki Legend is this link
A raccoon like creature with an enormous balls and magical scrotom! So I was fully expecting this brand to have about eight buttons on the crotch or something?! to accommodate the girth of the wearers!

Well, I pulled the trigger on a pair of Tanuki's. Having some good fortune with finances recently, I have shifted my mindset a little more towards having a few really quality items. After doing some extensive research online (here, and some other places), I settled in on a pair of Tanuki NT1's - the 16.5 oz "Natural Indigo" denim in a slim tapered fit. Picked them up from Blue Owl (quick should out to Jay at Blue Owl for answering a couple of questions to understand more about the test soak they did). I've added an album here, but here's a sample of how incredible this denim is: The Tanuki's are a very rough hand, a unique texture that can be seen in the slub irregular weave of the denim. These are natural indigo dyed. During the initial hot soak, I saw no dye transfer or bleeding thus far. What I like about these: - The weft is not traditional white. It's a grey/off-white color and the contrast is even more pronounced post-soak. - The unique stitching throughout. Tanuki uses 3 different thread colors (a very subtle contrast between them, but a great detail). There's also the obvious use of blue stitching on the inseam - some are lukewarm on this, but I like it and think it will pop more as electric blue fades come in. - The blue gingham pocket bags. Really cool element! - The obvious feel of the denim. For 16.5 oz, they don't at all feel as heavy as my American Sixteeners (by weight comparison). The fit: I went with the slim tapered fit (NT1 - Natural Tapered). For my build (slim mountain biker), the sweet spot for me is a 22-24" thigh the 31 is right in my range. Here's the details on measurements - Pre-Soak:
Waist: 17.5" (35" - Blue Owl: 34.5") F. Rise: 10.25" (Blue Owl: 10") Thigh (2" down): 12.25" (Blue Owl: 12") Knee (15" down): 8.55" (Blue Owl: 8.5") Opening: 6.75" (Blue Owl: 6.75") Inseam: 36.5" (Blue Owl: 36.25") Overall, pretty close in line with the Blue Owl specs. Also really close in line with the review I read via IndigoShrimp. I based my decision on 31 (my ideal waist is 33.5-34) from this review and factoring in up to 5% shrink. Hot Soak (hang dry):
Waist: 17.25" (used hanger) F. Rise: 9.75" (-.5") Thigh (2" down): 11.5" (-.75") Knee (15" down): 8.25" (-.3") Opening: 6.55" (-.2") Inseam: 34.75" (-1.75") Aside from a potential trip to AB Fits for a inseam hem, these are a near perfect fit for me. The taper is not too aggressive, and the top block has the right rise for my build. I may just opt for the double cuff for the interim. I don't think I want to ship these off anytime soon (perhaps with another pair coming in soon, I'll send off both). I'll post up some fit pics soon enough. I did a second soak today (and a low heat tumble dry) to see if there would be any additional shrink. The only changes: Waist (sans hanger): 16.875 (16 7/8)" Inseam: 34.25" Everything else remained the same.

I have the slim tapered and love the fit. Blue Owl's size guide was on point, so I recommend referencing them. I'm curious to track down some more details on the Urban Taper. I think that could be a little more aggressive than the slim tapered, which isn't overly aggressive in fit IMHO.

been waiting and waiting for restock (that I suppose may never happen) on the Tanuki IDT1s, and just saw this drop at BO
My eyes start to hurt if I try to see the extremely subtle "red cast" on the weft. For me, it seems there first denim was the high water mark, and unfortunately I didn't see it until it started to recede away.

I've been wearing my NT1's pretty much non-stop since I got them back from Railcar. Easily my new favorite pair.

So as I mentioned live been wanting the idt1's. BO said they weren't expecting a restock, but I've still been checking their site and the only other online retailer I could find, godspeedstore in Australia, every few days. But then just by chance I stumbled across a proxy option on Denimio. They aren't listed under brands, and didn't even show up on a search of the site. But they popped up as a recommendation when I was looking at some Oni's. A google search "tanuki denimio" revealed they can also proxy idus1's (ultra slim id) and bkut1's (black urban tapered). I couldn't find the red cast or the natural indigo, but that's not to say they won't appear at some point. Ordered them last night for $205 shipped (I had a discount code from something else, $228 normally) and they already shipped this morning. Idt1's only available in one wash, but that's fine by me. www.denimio.com/tanuki-idt1-id-x-id-tapered.html

Got my idt1's and they are definitely amazing. Definitely a lower rise than most of my denim, but not too low, and the fabric is a very slubby pleasure. Definitely keeping an eye on this brand as the cut is just perfect for me off the rack, something that I haven't quite found with other brands without having to have something tapered or hemmed.

I went for these too - the top block was great but taper just too much for me (knew it was a stretch though) turned from lower rise/solid top block to skinny after mid thigh on me. Awesome fabric though. Back out to denimo so we'll see how the return goes, hoping we can size up and find a bigger hem/knee combo, else I might go bigger after the naturals...those look really nice (and have some solid feedback from Matt)

Agree, Tanuki's two fits hit both sides of my wants. One's too loose, one's too skinny. Pity, materials look great.

It was comical - out of the bag i was like "okay this will be a small hem, but no worries..." then i put one leg in and realized the mid-thigh wasn't getting past my lower thigh. So maybe the low-rise was exaggerated. Denimo said they'd help me find a bigger hem/knee/lower thigh, on a size up, but who knows. I keep telling myself the regular will work, and im okay with that hem size (feels kinda 633ish)

Yeah, I like the upper block of the slims more, but the cuff is too large. Either boiling water or Railcar should fix that though. I'm in the same boat with PBJ 13's too.
