Before Gustin, I liked chambray shirting, but it was tough to have many examples given a lot of them look so similar (save for cut or minor details). Since Gustin came around and has offered so many different chambray materials, I've sold off a lot of my lighter weight solid & patterned shirts to make room (and funds!) for building my Gustin branded chambray inventory. As you may know, not all blues or indigos look exactly alike and many different fabrics have their own special looks or feels; and the same definitely applies to the fleet of materials they've employed in their chambray range.
Hopefully this thread can become a great resource for those shopping a specific material, as a photo of a fabric swatch hardly does a ton of justice to a finished garment. I myself have their double dip indigo, charcoal selvedge, indigo slubby-nep, sky slubby-nep, and bright dbl indigo. I'd be glad to answer any questions about those, and eventually post some quality pictures of them in due time.
I am personally hoping to see and hear about two of their shirts that seem to never come up on forums or imgur uploads: the #59 heavy indigo chambray and the #42 navy selvedge chambray. I've always wanted to see how the tone and weave of the #59 compared to the more standard weight indigo chambrays, and have never seen a comparison of the navy against any of the indigo or blue shirts or even in a fit pic.
Cheers!

Just know, any chambray over 5oz is substantial lol

I received the slub brown chambray a few weeks ago. Quickly sold it on the forum. The brown was more of a taupe or umber color which was ok but not what I really wanted. The nep was too much for me. Visually too much going on and it looked too much like a white dotted shirt. Never felt it looked correct. Wasn't slubby like a pair of jeans I couldn't really detect that "leopard" type effect.
7.5oz was awesome and I miss the nice heavy feel but the overall look wasn't for me

they posted saying that they were done with the thin buttons what, a month ago or so? I haven't had any problems with the buttons, but their lack of substance is really noticeable on the Oxford, the 4oz Twills look fine, though. Since this is about the Chambray's, any of you guys get in on the natural-indigo red-selvedge organic thing that they offered a few weeks back? www.weargustin.com/store/1077

But the buttons are still to small and the scoops If it was in the WS and that chambray, hell yeah. But no.

Just took some button shots of the crosshatch chambray I received last week: imgur.com/a/zfUdvSorry for the double photo on 3/4...mobile imgur is weird. The buttons work but they're conspicuously thin with this material. Love the shirt regardless.

New buttons will be on all shirts that are produced now according to G. Thank god the other buttons are sad.

So people's complaint is that the (old/previous) buttons were thin, or just small? I'm not sure I'm grasping that, while I've read it many times I never felt like it was an issue that echoed with me except possibly on my oxford.
I really like the look and sound of that plant dye indigo they recently offered, but I stayed on the fence too long and didn't end up funding it. I look forward to eventually seeing pictures of those when people get their hands on them.

Just know, any chambray over 5oz is substantial lol I recalled your comment here when I saw the 7oz Classic Chambray (https://www.weargustin.com/store/1122) online this morning. Without fabric close-ups, I'm not sure I'm charmed by it, but it doesn't really look heavier / beefier than the #59 Heavy Indigo. Still looking forward to seeing/hearing more about the fabrics compared to one another, especially the #59.

I look forward to eventually seeing pictures of those when people get their hands on them. They're way too thin. It's noticeable on their cotton shirts - now when you put them on the chambrays, it's even more noticeable. This morning I wasn't able to button the left gauntlet with my right hand (and I'm right handed). Had to take it off to do it. Was hoping this batch would get the new buttons since they were announced weeks ago...

Old buttons were sad thin very thin. Brag it's a big money shirt but give it cheapo buttons. Ralph Lauren Purple Label has amazing buttons hopefully this is what the new Gustin buttons are.

The Heavy Indigo Chambray is the most substantial shirt I own by Gustin.

The Heavy Indigo Chambray is the most substantial shirt I own by Gustin. That is 6oz? I want another 7.5oz non-slubby nep chambray.

The Heavy Indigo Chambray is the most substantial shirt I own by Gustin. That is 6oz? I want another 7.5oz non-slubby nep chambray. Yep, Heavy Indigo is 6oz. I couldn't bring myself to back it in the original run because the weather here in Texas would limit me to wearing it in the Winter. Temps are finally starting to drop below 90, and I'm wishing I had one. On the note of reviewing the shirting materials, I must say that the slubby-nep shirts are softer (especially brand new, unwashed) than I had expected, and they're fine to wear in warm weather. On days where the temp and humidity may have me questioning the comfort of a fully buttoned chambray, I can often comfortably wear my slubby-neps. My last remaining non-Gustin chambray shirts are a couple slim Jcrews which are now reserved for hiking. I was still happy to wear the slim Jcrew out, as it fits great, but since getting the slubby-neps their suppleness wins every time I want a normal chambray look. The Charcoal Selvedge is the softest button down shirt I've ever owned. It's a drastically lighter material than all the others, and for comparisons sake is very much to my shirt collection as my True Blue Silk is to the denim collection: a lighter, softer material that is EXCELLENT for warm weather, but doesn't feel too thin or flimsy. The shirt may be a lighter weight, but it doesn't feel (nor look) nearly as thin as the Jcrew "Lightweight Chambray" shirts I've had in the past. My love for that shirt and the ability to wear it out even in triple-digit temps is what has me craving the similar Navy Selvedge. Such a great Summer shirt.

Thanks for the great review of the different fabrics Crabrangoon. I've been wanting to back some shirts, your review will help a lot in deciding which ones to back

Of all of those, the striped indigo really calls out to me. It's in my top 5. The are actually 2 in the mix that i have never worn though..... The Summer Navy and the Skyblue. They are "shiny" One day, they will make it out though.

@untucked glad you mentioned the skyblue was shiny. i was thinking how much better it looks in your photo than the G photos and started wondering when it might re-appear. a sheen is enough to keep me away.
