I'm confused.... Isn't this the waxed jacket thread? Hope it is, because I've got a question. I've got a filson jacket I use for snow removal (shoveling/plowing/snowblowing for you southerners How do you know if it needs more wax? Or how frequent, yearly? I guess I know the obvious... When it doesn't keep you dry, but what's been your experience or what have you read?

I read that you're supposed to cut the sleeves off when it needs more wax. nonono! You're supposed to wash the hell out of it and THEN cut off the sleeves. heh. As far as vests go, have to admit the Gustin vest turned out alright, though.

Guys, if you at all like vests, this one is way better than the pics show. I actually am happy I did it - wasn't so happy during the process, but it turned out killer! WTF, it's a little money and an experience. I was getting no use from it so nothing lost and something gained. Now if vests are not your thing, that's cool. Don't hate.

Wasn't hating, I think it turned out great. With this ridiculous November beard I think I should probably have a trucker vest, too.

well I'll say that I think it looks like shit - it's Old26 who downright beat it into submission, made it his bitch, and he is what makes it able to be pulled off so incredibly well.

Got my shipping notice for mine in pine last night.. will let you guys know what I think. Won't be able to compare to a Gustin, though, since I don't have one.. sure someone here will, though.

the taylor stitch is really more of a chore coat than a trucker in style. i can think of several waxed cotton jackets, but not many in a trucker style other than the ones mentioned.

They will tend to lighten up in color with use, and over time will seep moisture in the shoulder area. After a good waxing, they darken up, and becomes more water resistent. Filson wax isn't the same formula anymore, and the old stuff they used to sell was a lot better, and lasted longer, but contained minerals. I think the new formula is more environmentally friendly, but isn't as good as far as I'm concerned. I found an old container of Outback wax from like 20 years ago in storage, and used it to wax last time around, and like it much better. Now days, they seem to only sell it in a small container that will only get you one application.

Is that ... a Stickley chair? Yessir. Good eyes. My eyes are always drawn to evidence of good breeding. Our home decor is almost disturbingly similar.

I just find the application process s little confusing. Guess it depends if you apply the wax at room temp versus using a melted wax. In one video I saw the guy let his tin of wax (Filson I think) soak in hot water to soften it up. He then applied it with his fingers and used a hair dryer to further melt the wax into the fabric. The Otterwax vid just shows the guy rubbing a bar of otterwax into the fabric and move it around with his fingers. Don't think he used a hair dryer

Forgot to mention that I pulled the trigger on a Navy Barbour Beaufort on Black Friday. No special deal or anything, I'd just saved up the money and we were out shopping already. Have had a few days of rain/drizzle and really love it.

looks like Gustin is working on offering a flannel lined trucker at some point in the future.

looks like Gustin is working on offering a flannel lined trucker at some point in the future. Yeah, that's been suggested to them for awhile over at SF and they're only now just getting around to it. I love my waxed trucker but my problem is this, they waited too long and I already have a brown waxed trucker. Lawless offered a lined cruiser in two varieties at a great price so they got my business instead. The only way I would've considered a lined trucker from Gustin is if it was offered in the dark oak, but even then I'm just buying the same thing. I own a Filson short cruiser as well and even though Lawless' cruiser is identical in design, I opted for the navy British millerain waxed cruiser rather than the brown 14oz cruiser.

It will arrive in late spring/summer time if it doesn't come out in the next 30 days.
