Self-destructing of some Gustin gears... I did that to my HS Work Shirt and Grey Silk... Totally destroyed it. Sleeves about 3" shorter now too. Guess I'll cut the sleeves off and make a Darryl Walking Dead vest. Dammit, I like this thing too...

Old26 ... They do warn against washing waxed cotton. If you can manage to wash the wax out of it, I guess it might work, but that water will have to be hotter than hell, literally, to pull the wax out of it. I don't know what dissolves wax, but as long as something dissolves the wax without destroying cotton, that'd be better than washing it, I'd think. I sorta wish I'd been here 8 hours ago or so to tell you not to do that. Better off BSTing than washing. But hell, if it does something cool, I wanna see pics.

Cut the sleeves off and put 'er in for round #3! Lightened up color-wise as well as heft. But it will make a killer vest for carrying shiz in pockets, etc. I might even like it more now! I'll do pics when it's done. It's either epic redneck or I'll look like some goofball photog from the Amazon.

gaseousclay are you planning on replacing the gustin with the filson? they're so similar in look/function i'm not sure why you'd have both. (unless you're getting the filson in a lined version) I wasn't planning on replacing the Gustin with the Filson. It did occur to me that they look similar aesthetically, but the Filson has the different pocket. Guess I'm trying to justify a Filson purchase since I really like their stuff. You're right though, I don't need the Filson short cruiser but I want it. Likewise, I don't need a Gustin dark oak waxed trucker (since I own the brown one) but I still want it. Gustin is supposedly working on a lined waxed trucker so it should be interesting to see what they come up with. I for one would be down with a lined trucker since I live in the Midwest. The waxed trucker feels cold to the touch if put against your skin, so having an extra layer for insulation during the Fall/Spring months would be perfect. The question is, can a person have too many waxed trucker jackets?

I love my Gustin waxed trucker too - but it's a bitch to wear most of the time. I took it to a movie theater the other night. It was cool outside, but as soon as we got inside, I started sweating through my t-shirt and overshirt. It's great if you live in a rainy and/or cool place, but I've found it almost impossible to enjoy very often, which is a shame. I'm considering washing it in hot water with soap to nuke the wax at this point. Has anyone done that? it's winter here in Minnesota so I haven't been able to wear mine in the wild yet, and probably won't be able to for another 5-6 months. Sorry your trucker got ruined in the wash. I would've just left it alone since the wax most certainly would've worn away with repeated wears, at least this is my understanding. it's recommended that you re-wax your jacket at least once a year, but since you've washed yours it appears to be ruined. either way, what a bummer.

Old26....not to be one of those jerks who slows down near a traffic accident to look but....pics? On Daryl, I saw a kid wearing a T-shirt with a picture of Daryl on it, holding a crossbow and it said "Everyone makes fun of the hillbilly until shit gets real"

Not sure why.. but I just scare to see the pictures.... Maybe because I took an awesome waxed trucker and f*cked it up? Yeah, you're normal. Just felt the urge. But I am going to use this vest more, that's for sure. There is a sh*tload of wax in those jackets fellas - would not have "worn out" for a long long time. No regrets. It's a piece of clothing - and one I could not wear much.

Old26 did you check the washer for wax residue before running your next load of wash?

I laughed out loud when I saw this, but on second thoughts I think it looks really good. I think it would be better with the shirt tucked in, though.
I've ordered the Moto vest from LD, which is similar to this, but I really like the idea of cutting the sleeves off my Trucker if I feel the urge.

It works great when, for example, going from 8,500 feet to 14,000 feet in a short period of climbing, I suppose the same rationale would work sitting in a theater?

It either works for me, or it doesn't. I was too cool to not wear it, but keeping it on was sweaty. A regular denim jacket would not do that. Waxed garments for me are simply useless. Well, maybe a couple days a year, so I'd rather have the vest that I can use. I am not a sweaty guy and it was unbearable. It was $150. I've spent way more and flipped jackets that didn't work out. I'm also experimenting with ideas, so it's nothing lost for me. I'm well aware of how to layer and I had exactly one item of clothing that was doing nothing in my closet. It's now useful. I won.

From the deprecated and nearly unique propensity to double-space, post period to the errors often associated with proofreading (omitted / extra words as a result of sloppy cut 'n paste vs. grammatical/spelling mistakes), unique stylistic flourishes / word combinations, his absolute absence on another board despite his dedication to this board and his in-depth knowledge of post history there, among a host of other things I'm too lazy to point out.. I've come to a simple conclusion about this individual and his motivations. I'm not sure if his employer is encouraging, indifferent, or even aware of what he is doing, but out of principle, I will use my credit there and quit the company altogether. I love their fabrics and offerings and lament this decision, but there is a right way and a wrong way to interact with a customer community.

Before this gets too "interesting" I want to confess that I have not had a job or employer since the late 1990's, although that did not preclude me from making over $11,000 today. I will admit my writing skills (riting skills for some) are not up to modern standards, but they get my point across. I also make a point of never having a user name on any forum that is duplicative of another, as well as never using any portion of my real name let alone my real name!!!! Wisdom, your writing analyses obviously leaves a lot to be desired since your conclusion is so far off base as to be laughable. I suspect the employees at Gustin have a lot more on their plate that would preclude them from posting on here in the middle of the day like you.

"..it is wise to believe nothing you read and maybe half of what you see."- jockohomo'sides.. who said I was talking about you? You should probably stop trying so hard.. everyone's opinion of you, whether good or bad, is pretty much set at this point. Feel free to throw what you will in my direction.. as I made over $11,001 today, I deem you unworthy of any further dialogue.. that's how it works, right?
