I love the wankel. It's the only new gas engine design since the 1800's. Just didn't work all that great! My buddies had rx8's for awhile and both were pretty disappointing. I almost bought an FD rx7 and decided to go the corvette route. I'm not sad over that decision.

If it's properly funded, yes. Otherwise, (if not private) taxpayers get hosed. Are getting hosed. Yeah I am hosing the tax payers. Town funded public pension. Tax payers voted into office the people that gave us a contract. Representative democracy. I've also single handedly save two lives so that's gotta be worth a few bucks! I support public pension because that is what the government promises to the public servants. I worked with a lot of public school educators during my last job and I feel their salaries are below the value they give to the society. I am glad they do have a small peace of mind when they hit retirement age, even though they should supplement their pension with 403b plan. It will be totally unfair to take the pension away just because the government doesn't know how to balance its checkbook.

yeah, just don't buy annuity. Might toss into a Roth soon too. Or invest in denim? Maybe who knows haha Being very frank, I truly believe we should max out the 401k contributions before having a hobby in clothings. It is totally good to buy a pair of jeans to treat ourselves. However, buying news jeans or shoes or other clothing items every month, those funds should be 100% disposible. It makes a real difference to put money in retirement accounts after 15 years of savings. Your future self will thanks you.

Which is why I don't drop what I used to. Trust me, getting old happens quick, and even though I did well, I could have done better. If I'm lucky, I might even see some of that SS, but I'm not counting on that either. It's not going to get any easier chaps, and thankfully we have a lot of equity in the properties we have.

I donno if I would max right now with a pension. Not counting inflation I would get just under 50k per year pre-tax from my pension. Also depends on fees and commissions your are paying some of these 401k programs out there are damn near robbery. Depending on who you buy through.

Yeah, my last company was selling 401k program and I know exactly how the whole market works. I definitely agree with you about pension but $50k will not take you far after inflation down the road. There are many great retirement calculators out there to calculate on how much you should supplement to your 457 or 403 accounts. (many large retirement companies use CalcXML behind the scene to power their online calculators) www.calcxml.com/calculators/are-my-current-retirement-savings-sufficientEveryone is different but I normally use 80% of my last salary as the income replacement. I use 4% as the annual investment growth.

I think SS will be fine. However, the $$ may not take us far after the inflation. I look at it as a supplemental income and not counting on it to feed myself and wifey.

Plus we do get cost of living adjustments.

I use a Financial Advisor but she cannot save us from the last two months drop. My retirement accounts are in ETF and Stock/bonds fund, down about 8% YTD.

I enjoyed a bright sunny day on the water.
SF .......who?
But I have been thinking about what a PITA and Expense so much of this can be. Makes me rethink my reliable MiC fallbacks that are never out of spec and fit well.

I took a weekend off from denim and spent it in the southern California wine country (Temecula) and ended up in Dana Point for the Ohana Festival. Granted, the visit to wine country ended with joining a "wine club" where I managed to pre-pay for 6 more bottles of wine...not to mention the case that I came home with from 1 tasting. Kinda glad I didn't visit any other wineries.
The other part of the weekend was nothing short of awesome as well. I'm not sure if Dana Point was under the radar to this point, but if you haven't been, it's worth a visit. Especially for a concert on the beach - Eddie Vedder, Elvis Costello, X, Band of Horses...others, it was pretty incredible.
