As easy as it is to make a joke, I'll say that I'm seriously considering doing the same. I only went up 1 size. I'm debating doing a cold and quicker soak to get things started. We shall see. All research I did online reinforces 1-2 and not the copy and paste 2-3 that G posted. Would I ever let you guys down? Haha. Looking forward to this contest! Looks like this is the final list: whiskeyrivermattexophobeDigDugGriffinoatwillyvariabletimmykbeeranddenimEDIT: Wow! They're fast on these! "10/15 update: Denim is being cut to order and will be bundled soon. We're shooting to start shipping out these jeans in the first couple weeks of November." "First couple weeks of November" = we will get to kick this contest off on January 1.

I didn't make the final list, but I'm still in, unless I missed something or forgot to do something?

Why do I feel like this is going to turn into the beard growing contest from Cheers? Who's going to be our Cliff Claven of fades?

What about ocean washes allowed?

Im thinking no sandpaper and the sky is the limit? Oh, yes. No sandpaper. No false fades. I wanted to say no car repairs and lawn maintenance in them just cuz I don't do that hahaa. But I'd have a riot. So looks like I am gonna have to re-learn how to fix a car haha. EDIT: DigDug, ocean washing is essentially sandpapering unless you just do the get in, soak, get out. But people usually rub clumps of sand on the jeans for the abrasion. I'm OK with ocean soak, but using sand to cause abrasion to the jeans might be a little false fadey. I dunno. What does everyone else think?

Sadly, I don't think they will deliver before my trip to the Dominican Republic. I think I will have to do this one the old-fashioned way...beach volleyball denim league!

I don't care if other people want to do it, but I did it one time to see what the hype was about, and never again (at least not on purpose). But yeah, seems a little false fadey.

I think purposefully using abrasives or abrading the jeans should generally be out, though this puts something like an ocean soak or cleaning gutters on a house in a bit of a grey area. My thought on it is that doing something like this purposefully to emphasize whiskers or combs or something should be out, but just going about your normal life should be allowed. If you want to wear them into the ocean, do that, but don't get out and start rubbing sand towards your crotch to get sweet whisker fades. If you roll around on concrete a lot by trade, or end up changing a tire or your oil in them, then that should be fine. All these things would result in quicker wear, but they're also just part of living with a pair of jeans.
Since the only prize thus far is a donation from @stevekas and there is no confirmed entry fee other than the purchase price to Gustin, it might just be a matter of a vote from forum members as to which pair wins. I wouldn't be opposed to monthly check-ins, but I think it's typically a quarterly thing. We're a pretty small group, so I think it should be fairly easy to keep track of everyone without flooding the forum. I'm not necessarily opposed to an entry fee, though, as long as it's reasonable, but it might leave a bad taste in mouths if we establish that after people have basically already "locked in" to the contest, and it also introduces a new logistical element I don't know if anyone here is prepared for organizing money and ensuring it ends up in the right place when the contest ends.

I think I'd like to keep money out of this, let's do it for the fun/bragging rights. I agree with DigDug on this one. At most, I'd be in for the novelty bet of $10. 10 people, $100 buys something random or contributes to the habit. But I like just doing it for fun.

I think what exophobe was getting it was everyone put money in to buy an item for the prize. Not a bet.

I think what exophobe was getting it was everyone put money in to buy an item for the prize. Not a bet. Exactly. My initial thought is that we would have a buyin that goes to buy whatever the prize is, stevekas volunteering changed that a little bit. It sounds like we should just leave it where it is, though, and just decide on check-in intervals and what's required (fit pics, front and back, detail points, etc)

Here's an idea for a category for this contest:
"Robert Plant" levels of shrink and fade. You don't need to post the pic, but you all know what I'm referencing. I feel like it's bound to happen with one of us over-shrinking the denim and opting to tough through it for the good of the contest.

OK, so if I have worms and need to scoot across the ground on my butt on all types of surfaces, that's OK, right? Right? Hey, where are you going...
