@untucked - those better be indigo dyed socks. Actually, the socks were the biggest PITA! Silky nylon bullshit!t that's so slippery, making it difficult to walk in the shoes

Was in Chicago over the weekend and spent some time walking Michigan Ave. Observation, workwear is dead as fashion. Little to none in stores, I saw no one else wearing a western shirt, only noticed one other guy wearing work boots. Best shop - independence . Only place I've seen were you can put hands on all OSB models.

Only place I've seen were you can put hands on all OSB models. workwear has typically been a niche segment of the overall 'fashion' realm. that said, i wouldn't necessarily go by what you'd see on Michigan Ave. the area is tourists and business folk through the week, and mostly tourists on the weekends...filled with large chain 'known' and a few higher end shops that cater to those crowds. independence is nice small shop, though pretty limited in selection. the best shop in the area is mildblend. it's a few miles northwest of where you were at independence. they have an impressive denim selection, boots from chippewa, alden, thorogood, truman (maybe others?), and a variety of jackets, shirts, bags, etc. wandering around the area you'd have been more likely to see people wearing boots, westerns, raw denim, etc...balanced with a fair bit of hipster overtones.

Don't know the wicker park area. We usually spend most of our time there in the western suburbs. I'll try and get over there some time. I just figure when you get that many people in one area that enjoy shopping you have a pretty good cross section of styles. Overall I like oak street, reminds me a little of Newbury st. In Boston.

Mildblend and Notreshop are the two I want to visit when I go to Chicagoland.
