You can throw Nick's into this category, for me, as well. Just for informative purposes, Nick's has new ownership now, and there have been a lot of changes in how they operate, and the current wait times are something like 6 mos. They were on a list of consideration for me, but not so much anymore. There usually is something lost in these kind of transactions. Is it new ownership? I know they moved production facilities, and yeah, going on over 18 months or so with > 6 month waits.

Ha, yep. Forgot about them. A Cuban heal gets you an express pass to my ignore list. Today is my lucky day. Yes, the "not that there is anything wrong with that" discussion reprised. I love Cuban heels.

I'm sure Whites and Wescos are nice and are clearly well made, but the style just leaves me cold. You can throw Nick's into this category, for me, as well. you mean styles. Because there are multiple.

It's okay that you like ugly boots. At the end of the day, devastitis has you beat with a closet full of ugly boots. You guys like them, I don't. We now return you to your normally scheduled programming.

While the quality is there, I was born and raised in the Midwest, and have no affinity towards the PNW aesthetic. I realize they all have service boot options. But, the way I see it, their primary designs are the climber/hiker/logger/smokejumper, and some of that design inherently made it's way into their service boots. They simply don't look quite right, to me.

But he did help me purchase a barely used pair of shell Trickers boots for half of retail so I'm thankful for that. /horsebut

The arch support is no joke, but that is beyond aesthetics. Now if you will excuse me I have to go buy another button tool for my button boots as I lost that damn thing again1

Why do they look like they're held together by a Kimber Cable?

Do they come with a pipe and a grey beard? Seriously, how old are you curmudgeons?!

Why do they look like they're held together by a Kimber Cable? That's a particular style of welting whos name escapes me at the moment but I'm sure Dev knows. I think it's a Norwegian welt.

Do they come with a pipe and a grey beard? Seriously, how old are you curmudgeons?! Yeah, well thats the thing for me, they are kindof "dandy-ish". I'm old enough for them, but not fancy enough. There was another recent MTO of plain hippo that looked pretty darn cool as well. imgur.com/a/czIom

I think it's called a norvegese welt.
Style and tastes change. I'm no longer into Alden Indy boots like I used to be, and if I get another pair of Aldens, it'll probably be their tankers, either suede (hunting green/snuff) or color #8 shell.
On a related note to this thread, I was able to buy the Truman Boots in navy shell from another person, and I'm waiting patiently on those to come in.

I'm assuming you saw that one guys picture with the rip in the navy shell at the base of the tongue. I saw that and figured Truman was still on the learning curve of shell make-ups.

Got it. Yeah, new facilities, new machines, training new people, new models of boots. I would not order a pair from them right now. IF it was in stock maybe but the boots I want from them would have to be ordered. I like the Robert in Olive.
