It's talked about all the time in the jacket realm. In the ~90's, American cut jackets started ballooning. It was partly the 90's style, partly the growing girth of Americans. It's one of the things that got a lot of guys like me into bespoke jackets. We lovingly refer to those jackets as "mall jackets". It's especially bad for big guys like me that need a 48/50 chest who end up with a fugging circus tent.
I'm for trim - nice to see Filson for example offer the Seattle cut to offset this. But the move towards this crazy *ss super tight stuff, no thanks. Reminds me of a woman in a formal gown who can't bend over without ripper her entire sides out.

ickes and bugula - the Wabis's look great! I had a minor pang of egret over selling mine but in the end it was time to dial back the population explosion in my closet. I think you guys may have a classic on your hands. I'm REALLY interested in the indigo show through on the fades down the road. They will be beautiful.

If I could have convinced Gustin to do a 3XL, I'd have got into one and some of the other Gustin WS's. I'm now relying upon LD to come through...

The look of these shirts over time should be Wicked Awsome!!! It'll be a bit hard at first to use it as a true WS, but once I do it'll be interesting the results.

highlights, @stevekas, thanks guys. yeah I'm really glad I decided on this thanks to the influence of all of you. You guys who have yours en route you will love the fabric. This is a shirt I don't mind putting some money into to have it tailored. Dirty_Denim, you guys should try and get this fabric. It would look killer with some black snaps, damn.

thanks @david. Yeah I'm really glad I backed it. I'm debating on doing a hot soak but not sure yet. Not sure how that fabric will react but if a warm/hot soak with some agitation keeps from having to send in to be hemmed it would be worth it.

Yeah, I have Filson's 5 pocket pants in Seattle cut in olive. It's the most comfortable pair of twill I've ever worn and it's stylish too imo.

RE: Wabisabi . . . this is a point where I am frustrated sometimes with the "fabric swatch" vs. "full sewn up product" pictures. With no sense of scale, it's impossible to tell what the fabric actually looks like other than one of those "make you feel funky" optical illusions. It obviously looks killer sewn up as a shirt. I'm not that crazy about workshirts, but i would have been all over that shirt if I could have gotten a better sense of scale and color (the swatch pictures make it look blue . . . see for yourself: www.weargustin.com/store/969).

Heh. This shirt. This was gone over ad infinitum when people were debating backing it. It's indigo with an olive weft, so as it wears in that which looks black will turn blue. This is a complex fabric with all sorts of stuff going on with the herringbone and the colors and the stripes. a lot of it is knowing that Gustin picks amazing fabrics, so if it looks interesting jump on it. It can be a good sized gamble, but rarely will you lose when trusting the g boys with fabric choices.

I never had any doubts on that one. Had there been the 3XL, it would be on me or close. Your'e right though - most of Gustin's fabrics are awesome. Not hot on the shirts mostly, but the work shirts and jeans and others are great.

I'll admit when I first saw the swatch pics I thought it would turn out badly.
As time went by I kept thinking I was probably wrong. Now I know I was. Wish I had given this one a go.

My particular problem was that in those photos, the overall pattern looked larger than it actually is. After it closed, Dirty_Denim posted a photo of a competitor's shirt made from that fabric, and I was like WTF? that thing is beautiful, why didn't I get in on it? . . . then I realized, i didn't get in on it because the photos are misleading.

Just face it, you were scared! Sometimes you just gotta man-up and embrace the fabric swatch for what it is, take the risk, and hit back it. After seeing it, I'm sad I didn't order it in a smaller size, but it's gonna make a sweet layer so I'm cool with it. Until it turns everything blue.

Yeah I was scared.
1) I didn't like workshirts at the time, and I still am not sold on the pure denim workshirt (i have some flannel ones now).
2) There is absolutely no sense of scale in those pictures. There's no excuse for this when they can put a quarter or a f!@king ruler next to the pattern when they take the picture and call it a day.
3) It was a $135 gamble on #1 and #2. I bought zimbs and extra loomies instead.

ok, guys, I have to admit I feel pretty excited abiutthis shirt!! Holy f!@k this fabric is insanely f!@king killer!!! Ok, so I need honest feedback on the fit fellas cause I hhonestly feel like it fits me better than my IxI and I really think I can work with this with possibly a little tailoring from Lawless, here it is; imgur.com/a/itvL0Its not a perfect fit, it's long and roomy but I'd appreciate some feedback guys ickes Brah, that looks KILLER on you man! Mine is a bit big on me (L, like all my G shirts and chores) I just got an Italy BrownxBlack chore in M, and it fits WAY better. I now have 5 WS's and 1 Chore that I know are 1 size too big for me, and that the M works much better. The chest and shoulders on the L WS's are good, but it's mostly the friggin' sleeves. They are insanely long on my shortish arms. Does LD do tailoring for sleeves? If so, I can make these L's work just fine!

Lol. Brutal day of Paris-hiking but I start traveling back home tomorrow morning. I was bummed my American sixteeners couldn't come with but my kickstarter Deadstock denim got the job done, I may look for dirty denim to help me identify what these are made out of even though they're pretty basic Japanese kit. They're decent but they definitely aren't up to the Gustin level as far as craft. But I've left little bits of indigo all over this city since I did a warm wash before I left, and they're definitely shedding blue.

But seriously, it's all we could talk about for days.
