Please don't get me wrong on this one...@untucked & Old26 (& other members) I have genuine respect - you guys are the best. Admittedly, I'm drawn to the heavier weight stuff (lighter stuff is fine during warmer periods)but DAMN, is it only me (or a small minority), lol? I find, for example, it takes AT LEAST 5 months (of relentless HARD wear) to even start to tame 18oz.+ jeans. This same attitude (of mine) applies to my leather jackets/coats, boots, workshirts et al. My thing, generally, is to just get the "best"/highest quality (that also attracts me) then beat it into 'submission'...I tell myself that this is a 'truer' economy but guess this approach is just another form of fetish anyhow, lol. Who am I to judge? But it amazes me to read some folks have 70 pairs of jeans etc, lol, but, for sure, more power to them also. |

Yes, I do have many pairs of jeans... Maybe 30ish pairs. But, I have pairs that are for beating the he'll out of, and pairs that are for looking clean and presentable. As a side gig, I do modeling, nothing major but it makes me a few dollars extra from time to time. I prefer to provide my own wardrobe usually, do I tend to keep lots of filler items... But mostly, I JUST LIKE SHOPPING SO DON'T JUDGE ME, lol

this definitely sounds like something that i should join. No unnecessary purchase over $50/item for me. I really can't think of any previously offered gustin item that I feel like i need to back. I may get a leather product as a gift, but that would be it. there are about 5 products on the way for the next three months, so those will keep me under control.
at the end of the challenge, i'll reward myself with rancour essex boots or something similar.

Important question on the rules of this game: Are we all allowed 1 "I was planning to buy this and it happened to drop in these 90 days" free pass? If so, should we explain it to the group as part of this challenge?

I say it should be strict. No spend. At all. Once you allow for one thing it's a slippery slope and we start looking at all exceptions.
No spend on fashion for 90 days. Jeans, shirts, belts, wallets, hats, socks, underwear, ties, watches, sunglasses. All off limits.

I have the olive -09 iron heart deck jacket lined up.
Only $450 down $300 from normal retail. That is on target with rakuten prices!
I'm gonna finish this bottle of Veuve Clicquot and go to dinner....after a bottle of red this might happen.

New wrinkle - what about birthdays and the delivery of gift cards? I have a bday coming up just before this no-spend pact and I'm well aware that I'll be getting things for my bday in the way of gift cards. That's the loop whole, if it's someone else's money, right?  And if we buy each other gift cards, then we won't be spending our own money on denim!  |

If so, should we explain it to the group as part of this challenge? This is a personal challenge really. If you want to stick to it to the absolute nose, then no fashion purchases for yourself whatsoever. I think there are only a couple things that would derail me from the challenge, and I will absolutely not let them go because of the challenge. So they will be my allowances, or i.e. failed the challenge but will keep going on my own. A shell boot/shoe sale, either Wolverine/Alden/AE, and the Gustin Japan Summer Blues/Gustin Japan Taupes. But I will be honest when I do make the purchase in case they do drop. Also, gift cards/store credit obtained before the challenge can be spent during the challenge, but any trades during the challenge will be considered purchases because you're just cutting out the middleman. Lastly you can make fashion gift purchases for other people, just not yourself obviously. |

you guys are my ultimate denim enablers, so i'm glad we're introducing more discussion on exercising restraint and forming a weird selvedge accountability group.
i'm in.
i liked a previous persons idea of rewarding themselves - my reward will maybe be my lawless black friday items will arrive during this period. that aside, i've got a massive kick out of this forum - my highlight is probably discovering ciano - but applying the brakes for a bit will be good for the wallet and the soul.
with the money i save, i will do one or some of the following:
- buy a treat for my wife and son
- donate the cost of a pair of jeans to my local salvation army (full disclosure: i have a lot to do with them, but this is just a fun way to invest in something else i care about)
- uh... actually that's all. i will do these things.

@untucked. I don't think that one should count against you because it was in place and if you don't pay the rest, you lose the work you already have a deposit on. I find a 30 day challenge is a solid test. If you haven't done that before, it's harder than you think. I do it occasionally to be more thoughtful about the consumer choices I make. Bumping it to 90 days is really going to be tough. It's like trying to lose 25 lbs before trying to lose 5 lbs. Another way I've explored the essence of the challenge is to buy anything I want, but for each thing I buy, I have to give away/sell two equivalent items. The downside to that approach is it becomes a mechanism to justify upgrades. good luck guys. So I've desided that I'm 7 days in on my 90 day No Spend. Why wait.
I figure I can make it through the summer.
Come late Aug. I'll be looking for some Flannels and a lined CF chore jacket.
