Black doesn't photograph well. Collects dust easily. Is formal. So for a suit it doesn't make any sense for anything but funerals.

I wouldn't use lawyers as my gold standard of sartorial choices. Hahaha oh man. Yeah definitely not. But just sayin that the courtroom is a pretty formal where I used to see a sea of black suits, and now I barely see any. I just think that "black is formal" distinction is fading. I wouldn't say a courtroom is "formal"..... If women aren't required to wear dressed, it can't be anywhere close to formal. Suit and tie =/= formal

Suit and tie alone does not = formal attire. Too often we interpret and change standards to suite our own ideas.

Ritziest, fanciest formal = tuxedo/penguin suit. Normal formal occasion (Ball, gala, prom.....) black suit.

I just think that "black is formal" distinction is fading. I wouldn't say a courtroom is "formal"..... If women aren't required to wear dressed, it can't be anywhere close to formal. Suit and tie =/= formal Speaking from experience, my friend, judges, and often adopted rules of practice for different jurisdictions, call for attorneys to wear "formal attire" in the courtroom. Specifically. By name. Yes, suit and tie, strictly speaking, definitely does not always equate to formal. I fully understand there is a distinction. But as an attorney that is well-versed in the history of the courtroom, practice and etiquette have for centuries called for attorneys to dress formally, which always meant black suits. My point is that only recently has that begun to change in earnest, where attorneys are wearing less "formal" greys and blues and sometimes even earth tones to court rather than straight blacks and white shirts and solid ties. I agree, for social formal, you are absolutely correct that a black suit is the most "correct" attire.

Black is formal attire, point blank. You can be "dressy" in grey, navy and brown, but you surely wont be formal. not sure what you mean by "formal" ... if you mean black-tie, then a tux is probably unavoidable ... if you mean "business-formal", then navy or charcoal would be what your aiming for, whilst "black" would be ... in my country the rule for an attorney to appear at court still is "dark wardrobe" (literal translation), however the rule is no longer respected by many .... meanwhile you see short sleeved shirts ( ), absolutely disgusting ties and so called "suits" in any cut and color ..... this may be different in jurisdiction where a wig & gown is still required ... personally I dress very "classic"-flawless if the judge is a lady (you may laugh, but so far when I was better dressed than the opposite I always had a small advantage ...) or if I'm trying to "powerplay" ... in cases where my client has to rely on the mercy of the (male) judge, I put on the contrite-look, a.k.a. an ill-fitting suit (first internet-buy, got the pants too large and had them re-tailored, which resulted in fitting technically but not optically) and some simple shirt with a "standard tie" I have a horrible 80s style double-breasted plain black suit left in my wardrobe ... only using it for funerals (so hopefully almost never)

I still don't know a situation for formal attire that requires a black suit? Prom is a tux, black tie affairs are a tux, morning dress and white tie....
Funerals but everything else they look dopey and novice 80% of the time.

Theres brentkuz (alive Chris Penn) rocking the Jersey Suit. Funny, I love black suits but hate white shirts. Actually dislike solid color shirts as a whole.

It doesn't count if you can promise you didn't enjoy it. I'm super excited though lol. Haberdash had a 50% off sale on their Rancourt Black CXL loafers. I was fully committed to buying them, but received an email saying it was sold out and the system didn't update so I'm SoL.

This scene cracks me up. I remember making a post about Roman/Laura doing mental gymnastics way back when.
