Yeah, I'm fine with that too. Navy suit is a staple, along with the black suit and maybe something in an earth tone. Covers you for interviews, weddings and funerals -- and the odd dinner out.

Black suits? Are you a funeral director?

Works for just about everything. Surely you jest! I don't think I can be friends with black suit wearers for non-funeral functions. (Not talking about tux).

Get to my age, funerals is about the only reason I put a suit on any more.

Get to my age, funerals is about the only reason I put a suit on any more. That's really depressing, brah. I love wearing suits. I just love wearing blazers with chinos more. Went through the SuitSupply website, and now I'm considering picking up two suits, Navy and light grey. I have a light grey suit, but it's a cheap 346 from BB Factory. It's gotsta gao.

We are a bunch of denimaholics. "No, I don't have a problem. I can stop buying clothes anytime I want." We justify no spend as "well, if you don't have one in that color, that's okay" and you've got me with my surrogate shopper (girlfriend). And of course the classic - "I had to, there was a sale". Please add any others I forgot (and will use to justify my next purchase) That said, I fully endorse a great fitting navy suit.

It's not the money....I need to wear my clothing more! I have some awesome denim like really really awesome denim that will fade amazingly but I have been splitting time.
Wearing the #43 left hand twills for 6 months was a waste as they didn't fade for crap. I really wanna wear my heavy stuff more. Only a few hours of wear (36) on the beasts and they are showing whiskers.

I think you will be happy with suit supply over 346 brooks. Chinos and blazers rule.

A black suit is a must. No way around that.

My tailor from HK makes a US tour every August/September. She does great work and prices are decent. I usually pick up a suit/jacket each year.

Will the black loomies claim another victim from this thread? If I didn't just receive a grab bag gift of black denim, I'd consider trying these.

Halfway in and I'm not sure I'll make it to the end. The first half was easy, BUT in the past 45 days, I've seen way too many sweet "sale sites".

I guess the next question is - if (when) any of us fail - do we think it's going to be on something unique and limited or something basic that could've been waited for? I have been reminding myself not to succumb to the latter - "no, I don't need another gingham shirt". Earlier this year, I did a 90 day no spend by accident. Now that I'm doing it on purpose - much much harder.

Stopped by SuitSupply today. The only two navy suits I was interested in, they didn't have them. Jacket for 42S fit great, but the pants were awful in the seat. I have a huge butt and big thighs. Sucks. Will probably have to go MTO for well fitting pants.

A black suit is a must. No way around that. Completely disagree. No situation where a black suit can't be topped by a different color. The only time I think black suit is needed is a funeral/wake and a dark charcoal or dark navy works just as good. Black suits are for defendants. Matched with a black shirt and red tie.

I agree..to a point. I've been to funerals where it was requested all attendees to wear black. I wouldn't have worn dark charcoal to that because I wouldn't want to stick out or go against the wishes of the family holding the funeral. Granted, there's always people who don't care, but I'm not one of them.

So you're going to skip funerals? Black just works. I wear black suit pants a few times a week to work, with Wolverines, with black shoes and with brown shoes. A solid black suit is almost exactly the workplace equivalent of indigo jeans with contrast stitching. It's the perfect base for a loud as shit shirt, tie and socks. Try that with a blue windowpane or chalk stripe and it's just silly. Schwartz uber alles.

Black is formal attire, point blank. You can be "dressy" in grey, navy and brown, but you surely wont be formal.

I wouldn't use lawyers as my gold standard of sartorial choices. Hahaha oh man. Yeah definitely not. But just sayin that the courtroom is a pretty formal where I used to see a sea of black suits, and now I barely see any. I just think that "black is formal" distinction is fading.
