How do you think a top 3 guy like KD balances the legacy vs. winning a title thing? Obviously I have my own opinions about whether this decision should affect his "legacy", but clearly many others think it does. Does that matter to KD? In 30 years will history downgrade KD's achievements because of it? My sense is that KD cares less about this legacy stuff than someone like Lebron. I don't know. It's interesting. When the champagne is spraying is it any less sweet if it's in Oakland (soon to be SF) and not OKC?

I guess I missed the sad-sacks in the middle of those championship celebrations. It has nothing to do with being a sad sack. The fact that he left will always be with him, this town, and his legacy. It's an immutable asterisk, you know like how every time some hack writes an article about Cleveland they mention the river burning in the 60's. I just figured they keep mentioning it because it's still on fire. Not true?

Yes!!! Beat it Timmy.
Stud of a player, great legacy, first class whiner and I won't miss him for a second.

If there ever was a player that deserved a max contract every year since his rookie contract, it was Tim Duncan. Players like Allen Crabbe making $18+ million a year is an absolute joke and travesty.

Playoffs are approaching!! Can we start talking about the NBA again? March Madness always makes me veer toward the NBA. The college game is OK, but it's just better to see the world's best athletes do their thing. Anyway. My local T'wolves look like they're at least a year away (although KA Townes is kicking ass). Hopefully KD will be back in top shape for the playoffs. Watched the Spurs/Cavs the other night and the Cavs looked like shit. Kawhi is very good at basketball. Just happened to catch a little bit of a random Jazz/Pelicans game. First time I watched Anthony Davis in a while. Sweet Jesus. If they could get a few more players (I'm not sure Boogie is the answer)...

Having KD is a must for me to sell my tickets lol, prices plummeted when he went down. But I'm just happy Iggy is back to form like our championship year. Harden and Westbrook get too much love from the refs for touch fouls, makes the NBA soft. Silver is basura in my books.
I think Embiid may be better than Townes but only time will tell. I think Lebron may end up with the #1 spot for scoring but will be considered soft compared to Jordan or Bryant.

I might agree with you on Emiid, but he needs to play more than 20 games (in limited minutes!) before we can know for sure. I know this one is a knee, but foot injuries in 7 footers never seem to end well. I like LeBron more every year. I might like him even more because he isn't the asshole Jordan or Kobe is/was.

Yeah, aside from the Purple Gingham News Special, I've got no beef with LeBron. Plus we beat him for the title in '11.

We got Jimmy Butler for essentially nothing. I'm very excited. Not that we have a shot at the Warriors as currently constructed, but I'm still excited.

CP3 to Rockets is fun. Not enough to get past Warriors though. Who knows, maybe the Rockets aren't done. I'm trying to think what move by what team could potentially unseat the Warriors in the next year or two. Paul George to Cleveland for Kevin Love? Does that get them there? Paul George to San Antonio? Can you win a title right now, regardless of your roster, if it doesn't have KD or LeBron?

I could see Houston going after Gordon Hayward. Still doesn't put them over the Warriors, but would make for a fun team to watch.
I'd really like Cleveland to get Blake Griffin, just to see how many rims they could destroy in a regular season between him and LBJ.
I'm not sure Paul George is the answer for anyone. Not a bad player, but not a great player either.

BG is basura as he never takes care of his body so he is injury plagued. He did extend to the 3pt range more last year to combat the new style of NBA, but I'll let him shoot it always.
CP3 can be a good or bad if he can keep up with the Rockets faster pace, but aside those two not much else going on for them. Also, he on a one year tryout as he will be a FA next year and can negotiate a supermax deal.
GH is another basura in my book as his game is just lackluster, at least he style his hair each game...
Melo will still never get a ring.

They both do some things very well, and in Hayward, you have a solid two way player.

It does seem ironic that we're all making fun of Phil Jackson for being old and out of touch, but also acting excited about CP3 and Melo, two old farts that probably won't help any team get to a title.
For once, I'm glad Cuban is being quiet, I want no part of any of the current FAs.

My opinion on the way they play basketball in general. BG can dunk and posterize people but other than that he flops half the time. That sort of play just annoys me and takes away from the game.GH is very similar in the way he gets to the line with the flops he does. But hey its entertainment for the most part now. Could it be the refs just are terrible now and are not used to all the new rules implemented?
I am not a fan of Adam Silver at all and they way he running the NBA. I am equal and fair in my judgement as I don't leave out my hometown team of the Warriors.
Cuban trying to figure how to win it all again once Dirk retires. HB was my previous favorite Warrior and Cuban gave him a payday but maybe next year will be better for him. If he goes back to the great potential we saw before his scary fall after that dunk, he may just do it. If he doesn't swing the ball in front of him to get stolen, he can get to the basket or bank on his midrange jumper.

If he doesn't swing the ball in front of him to get stolen, he can get to the basket or bank on his midrange jumper. I think Blake has moved significantly beyond the dunker that he was coming out of college. He is an effective passer from the elbow and pick and roll and has added a 3 pointer to his arsenal. I don't think he'll ever be a lights out shooter, but the defense can't ignore him at the 3 point line which opens up the middle of the court for DeAndre or other offensively limited big men. What is your beef with Silver? I think he's the best commish of the four major American sports and probably in my recent memory. I don't think last years' salary cap increase was very well handled, but it allowed your dubs to get KD. I'm also not a fan of owners extorting cities to pay for new arenas, most recently Milwaukee, but I think that's on the owners more than Silver. He seems like a nice guy who at least partially has the player's interests in mind. I also like how he has tacitly allowed and even encouraged players' social/political expression via social media. I think the Barnes deal was probably a mistake. As a former Iowan, I root for him (he's from Ames, I grew up in Cedar Rapids) but I don't know that he's going to live up to that contract.

Did I miss the part about Barnes having a bad year? The dude far exceeded expectations here last year. 19/5 is so much more than I expected, and he kept it up after Dirk returned from his injury.

I guess I don't know his contract but it was a max deal, right? No, 19/5 isn't bad and there are certainly worse players with sillier contracts, but I don't know if those are max deal numbers unless you bring something substantial to the table defensively. That said, its not like I watched a lot of Mavs games this year, so what do I know. EDIT: Yep, max deal, 4 years, $95 mill.

He was an asset on D for us, but then just about anyone would be. I'm fine with locking him down to the old max money before we get to the next big bump. If we're just gonna be a landing spot for Warriors they can't afford, I'm ready for a rental season with Iggy.

Yea, landing Iggy would be fun. I think Carlisle could (hopefully) utilize him well. One of my favorite things about this year's playoffs were the endless wide open dunks from Iggy and Shaun Livingston off of backdoor cuts.
The problem, of course, is that the defense is too distracted by Steph, Klay and KD to also keep an eye on those cuts. Don't know if those opportunities will be available on the Mavs. If anyone can make them though, it's Rick (or Pop or Brad Stevens).

I have no illusions of where we are as a team. We have some young, almost reasonably priced talent that needs one super star to retire and another to come to town. But we're a long way from being a top flight team. However, San Antonio, Memphis, Portland, the Clips and Utah don't seem much closer, so here's to being third to eighth best!
