Need your advice, gentlemen... so I backed the Taylor Stitch Maritime CPO through the workshop, and I also picked up the Apolis CPO during their Black Friday / Cyber Monday sale. Pics here: imgur.com/a/2NQUiBoth seem somewhat less than ideal on me. Ordered 40(M) in the TS and M in the Apolis. Construction quality and fabric are solid on both - so happy with that. The Apolis is more of a classic, loose fit. I like the hand warmer pockets and it would seem meant to be more of a light-weight jacket. Sleeves are an inch over spec, and a bit longer than I'd like. The TS is a much trimmer cut, and seems to be meant as more of a very heavy shirt. Interestingly, the pocket dimensions are absolutely identical on both, but because of the trimmer and shorter cut on the TS, they look proportionately bigger (and they're placed a smidge lower, as others have pointed out). I should probably return one of these. Thoughts on which (if any) I should keep? Thanks. I like the TS jacket. I think it can still be layered and the slimmer fit looks a little more polished.

I agree with devastitis Marc, I'd keep the Apolis. The TS looks strange to me....shorter more tailored body with huge pockets near the stomach. I don't care for the buttons either.

If you dont like the Apolis being oversized, size down. But besides it being a little droopy, it does look like the better of the two.

I don't like the tan buttons, but if you're keeping one, I say it should be the one that fits better (though the other comments about sizing the Apolis down might get the best results).

It will be tailored but big enough to be worn as a true CPO. The Apolis is way boxy cut-wise, and I don't think sizing down will help the situation for you. I am not a fan of either, actually. I have tried on both in one iteration or another of them, and shockingly preferred the Wallace and Barnes CPO from J.Crew I purchased in both fit and feel (though function wise, the Apolis is the best at weatherproofing.)

The Californian. Proudly made in Portugal Dicks. I'm not bothered by this. I do think it's overpriced for what it is. It's a run of the mill chambray, really. It's a near identical copy of the J.Crew Japanese Selvedge Chambray with different buttons (the previous iteration at J.Crew had chalk buttons, and they now have thick MOP buttons) and not indigo-dyed (it seems). The J.Crew one is, and it fades nicely. The black one is pretty, but it's not for me.

I agree with ickes and devastitis. The pockets are comical and the buttons are supposed to be on a different shirt.

I just take offense to the name. They're a Californian company that makes some goods in California and some in Portugal. Just name it the Chambray, or the Oporto or Lisbon.
Nice to see them make a shirt in Portugal with a non French placket though. That's kept me away from their previous Portugeuese shirts.

If you dont like the Apolis being oversized, size down. But besides it being a little droopy, it does look like the better of the two. The apolis def looks too big just as a shirt as a jacket over another button down or something it should be good. That size TS on you looks too small.

Thanks, guys, for the input. The TS will go back, probably the Apolis as well. Just not happy enough with either. I can't really size down on the Apolis because the shoulders would be too narrow in the S. The one possibility is that there's a seam running down the middle back of the CPO. It might be possible for a tailor to bring it in. But not sure it's worth the cost for the uncertain results.

It's taken me a little bit to warm up to it (their workshirt (ish) cuts) but now I like it. Part of it is they do their cuffs so tight that the cuff always stops right at the wrist with no overlap like most normal shirts.

For $160-200 you can chose a heavy wool from Pacific Blue - pacificbluedenims.com/index.php?p=catgp&id=48And you can customize buttons, thread, run off, gussets, pockets, etc

So is the general consensus that the Mechanic's shirt is one of the "best" TS shirt offerings? I was hoping for a restock of the Yosemite in my size, but I may just grab a Mechanics since it seems really functional.
