Depends on the jacket, and what it's for. It can be as bad of a joke as hand-warmer pockets. It may not matter. For a riding jacket - not normally. There are great jackets with multiple piece backs. If you're repro'ing something like a WWII A-2, it's a huge no-no. So this is coming from someone who doesn't know shit about proper riding leathers/high-end jackets. I grabbed the moto. I don't know why - I just did. I've always had a leather jacket in my closet since high school. In fact, I STILL have that same jacket that was passed down from my dad. It was neglected (by both of us) but I still keep it. I've got a nice lambskin A-2 which is by no means a repro. I know lambskin is a fairly silly choice for something that was traditionally a foul weather/high altitude thing and that it's something I've seen people say generally super disposable as far as leather jackets are concerned. I say all that just to show what my knowledge-base is (ie, entirely uninformed except for light-use/general aesthetics). I am really happy with what showed up from TS+GB. -It fits nice and snug and only needs to stretch a little in the chest (which was what GB said it should be like). -The leather is supple and is not one of those super-stiff hides that would require breaking in (besides the minor stretch). -The color is a solid, vibrant whiskey with a few hiccups of dark circular (<1/4" diameter) stains on occasion. They don't bother me. -The zippers are tough, beastly things. -The sleeve length seems good for me which is funny since usually TS shirting is just barely short in the sleeves for me when the chest is perfect. -I think where the "gusset" sleeve zipper is needs to break in since it doesn't always want to fold right, but I'm probably wearing too bulky of clothing underneath (also a watch makes it super tough). -I think the lining could feel nicer. It has more of a rugged, longer wear feel to it, but also a rough feel. -The two-piece back is possibly a way to use more of a hide/different hides and is a point of failure over a one-piece, but it looks (visually) to be well done. So yea. A few in-person thoughts from someone who essentially knows nothing. Bottom line, any leather jacket is better than none when riding. When you get to a certain point, we're picking nits. But that's why we're here. If we were the average person, this shit would not matter. Here, it does Of course you never want to have to put any jacket to the test - it took about 30 years of riding before I had my first experience on the streets. I was very happy to have on a proper - HEAVY - moto jacket and all the other gear. Would this one hold up? Dunno. Is it better than wearing a shirt? Yes. And if you don't ride, I'm sure it's a fine jacket. But again, when you come here, you have to expect all of us (fill in the blank) snobs to pick nits. That's what we do

Hmmm, this would have been interesting reading before I ordered a leather jacket... I've literally been looking for one for 2+ years. But, when spending that type of money, you have to make sure it's high quality and what you want. I wanted Dark/Seal Brown and Horsehide. I minimalist style (e.g. Cafe Racer). I settled on this: epauletnewyork.com/products/cafe-racerIt's pricey, but, for Horsehide from a quality tannery, it's pretty favorable. A Flathead would have been closer to say $2,000 -- and they had nothing like this. Didn't quite want a bomber jacket as I was super tempted by Buzz Ricksons and Real McCoys. Hoping it ages well and lasts decades!

Check out these cats in Seattle. Great place. You can get a custom jacket for the same price: Thurston Bros.

Also Old26 if the TS doesn't work for me I'm thinking a A2 from Buzz off rakuten when they are doing a 10x $1050 ain't too bad. Plus over $100 in points from it.

Old26 can you recommend a moderately priced intro leather jacket maker? I like Aero but $1200 is a bit much right now.

I ordered this shirt on November 1 & haven't heard anything since. My account seems to be inactive so I can't login to check. While I'm waiting to hear back from TS, does anyone know when this should ship? I just got mine after it went to New York and then came back to the SF Bay Area. I have mixed feelings about it. Great construction from TS as usual. Tight triple stitches and other details. Fit is great for me except for a tad too long sleeves compared to my other 42s I have from them. Issue I have is the selvedge canvas. Gorgeous material, deep indigo. Tough yarns, very stiff and definitely not "buttery soft". Not the most comfortable at this time but I have little doubt it'll get softer with wear. The problem I have is the weave is super loose. You can see light through 2 layers of canvas. It'll breath well and it'll probably be a decent spring or autumn shirt with layers but I assumed 11oz weight would be a bit tighter so I can wear during the California "winter" as well. I like it. Just wasn't what I was expecting.

Definitely not an expert. I've got the Gustin brown waxed trucker, Filson tin cloth short cruiser, Rogue Territory waxed canvas Ridgeline supply jacket (technically not a trucker), Pure Blue Japan deep indigo type 2, and a cheap Levis trucker. I've also got my eye on the Japan Blue type 2 from Okayama Denim, but that'll have to wait.

Depends on what it looks like for reallies. Im curious if they're lined. The field tan variant is listed at 7oz which is pretty thin for waxed canvas. Im also wondering what kind of collar they're going with. Corduroy?

The new tan waxed canvas long haul trucker looks dope. Think I'm backing this one when it goes up This. I'd been holding out hope that the Tobacco Freenote Rider on Huckberry would come down from the $400 price tag. But, it's still holding strong. Though, I love the type II design of the Rider, the field tan Long Haul will do well as an alternative, at a far more agreeable price. Whether it is lined, or not, has become somewhat irrelevant to me. In the past week, I also nabbed the Filson Soy Waxed Short Lined Cruiser, in black/dark green, from their winter sale, for $140. Along with my 3sixteen shadow type III, the three should form a solid trifecta.

The field tan does look good. Saw the studio shirts and thought, those look pretty good, but looks too narrow for my lik..oh. They're for women. Oops. Might cop the light blue for the SO.

They're up, the field tan looks great, I wish the washed olive looked a bit less washed. Olive looks way to worn for my tastes. I cant wear their jackets anyways too short in the arms. I've asked TS and G to make longer jackets. At least G makes Tall shirts so it makes sense for them to make jackets to match. TS insistence on making outerwear that does not cover your wrists/hands drives me up a wall. "Ok guys, we are going to make a waxed jacket that will protect everything from the elements EXCEPT the last 1" of your wrist so your shirt can get wet in the rain.........good plan?". "Yes, it will look just like your clothes are TOO SMALL....awesome"

On the tan waxed jacket. The second to last picture on the model the jacket looks short on him. I know truckers aren't suppose to be long jackets by any means but this just looks a bit short.

Along with my 3sixteen shadow type III, the three should form a solid trifecta. I came very close to buying the Filson soy wax cruiser in black/dark green but just wasn't feeling that color. If they still had the tan version up I would've nabbed it in a heartbeat but those are usually the first to go. Keep trying to talk myself out of buying one of their dry duffles too. Not a fan of the material but the price seems too good to pass up. But then again, they could be priced so low because the quality is horrible. to make matters worse, Okayama Denim just got a limited supply of the natural indigo type 2 on their site, but that's an easy pass since it costs $380.
