Giles apparently has a lot of say with Iron Heart and has been taking a beating recently sales wise. No wonder he may be getting a beating sales wise. 100% mark-ups, no 20% VAT refund, you wonder why...? Fine if they want to limit access by curtailing retailers. Consumers are nowdays much better informed about the cost and true value of Japanese denim. It should be harder for western retailers to keep up if they insist on their crazy pricing policies. Well, so be it, I will also look at other brands. You can't sustain a business when there is so much competition out there just by placing barriers and limiting distribution so you can keep your inflated prices. Not a good business model in the long-run.
Wait what? No 20% VAT refund? Did you know about this bentin?!

Example: You can buy an IHSH-76 17oz western shacket from rakuten for $217 plus shipping minus an 8% Japanese sales tax refund: global.rakuten.com/en/store/fukuraku/item/13shls-ihsh-76/Or you can buy the overdyed version of that same shirt through the UK retailer for $375 shipped (before at $425). www.ironheart.co.uk/shirting/ihsh-99.htmlThat's a mark-up of $175 - $200. And I would assume IH-UK is getting access to the product at further discounted prices. The overdyed treatment is pretty cool, and yes, you get A-class service from IH-UK, but in my opinion hard to justify such a large price difference.

This is strange considering there's a release schedule for all the upcoming IH products that will be available on Rakuten for fall\winter.

I understand a fairly large portion of the new releases will be exclusive to IH-UK.

I am opposed to violence. That said, if anyone I know buys a $250 cotton poly lightweight western shirt with a boring grandpa pattern, I'm gonna mind punch them in the imagi-balls.

I'd like to hear someone justify a $250 shirt like that to the guys in your avatar pic. That's something likely to end in violence.

I'm not surprised at all. But if you control supply and if there are 2 retailers for a certain product they can charge whatever they want. No 20% VAT refund is nuts. They mark up at least 75%. I won't order from IHUK unless prices reflect what the good is really worth. $350-400 for a shirt and it better be bespoke and of the worlds best cotton. All the iron heart shirts I have are $150 shirts all day but not more.

Figured this order is for science. For the good of the group.
I did receive an email confirmation. And a second email all in Japanese.

What is this no 20% VAT refund you guys are talking about? I sent a shirt back a few weeks ago and was refunded the full amount, but I did have to cover shipping.

There's no plan for a restock and that one XL that's left is the one I sent back...lol. Those sewed up a bit small but I gambled and ordered the XL anyways because the XXL would have been too big. It's a great summerweight shirt. They sold out quick and I'm surprised the XL I sent back is still available.

IT's not a refund they're talking about In the UK sales tax (VAT) is displayed as part of he purchase price UK businesses shouldn't charge VAT on orders shipping outside of the EU (or I guess if your ecommerce software doesn't support dynamic pricing then refund the 20% (though you shouldn't be using such a shit software)) So the assumption is that IHUK are making an additional 20% profit on non-EU orders

VAT is the sales tax they pay in Europe. If you're outside of Europe, you don't have to pay it. Japan has the same sort of thing, which is why you get a lower price back from Rakuten before they ship (usually negated by the additional shipping charges).

What is this no 20% VAT refund you guys are talking about? I sent a shirt back a few weeks ago and was refunded the full amount, but I did have to cover shipping. Value added tax. Basically it's tax on goods and services at 20%. Since it's an international sale they so not need to charge said 20% tax since we are USA citizens/USA shipping address. Like when we buy from rakuten they take 8% off because we are Usa customers they don't charge the 8% Japanese consumption tax. So if IHUK did the sale as rakuten we would have a 20% discount due to the lack of tax.
