Giles confirmed enough vendors showed interest to initiate a western version of the 170--due out this fall. 250 shirts was the minimum iirc. Great news...now to make the decision of what to do with my order (its been on hold in the UK waiting for word back about the western's fate--as suggested by Madame Butterfly.) Unheard of customer care!

Unheard of customer care! That's awesome. It was an easy decision for me to take the work shirt version as I've got way more Westerns than work shirts and plus I love the metal buttons they used on this one. The western will be killer as well though.

Dude, Im torn ickes. The metal buttons and different style compell me to go WS, but the sizing and more boxy cut have me wavering to stick with my tried and true western. And alot can happen-to IH and to me--from now till fall, and one in the hand beats two in the bush... I can also ship it, get it in hand, then make the call...hummmm

Have them ship it to you, get it in hand and try it on and if the fit is not right for you send it back and get the western in the fall.

Well... it's here. Fabric is outstanding. It has a very similar hand feel to the 154. Pictures are a bit deceiving. The white areas are not as bright as they appear. It has more of a vintage look to it. The buttons are fantastic. Construction is excellent, typical IH. Alignment is good, no skew. There is some lack of symmetry. But, for me, it is within acceptability.
Fit is OK. I was in between sizes. Sized up for shoulders, and glad I did. There is a little length and width I hope to shrink out.

Yeah it looks like the same white in the green 129 which is a more natural off white. It's nearly identical in color to the off white Chucks, parchment I think is what Converse calls it. Looks great man.

Once my son enters kindergarten that'll free up lots of cash for me, but that's a year away. But, I'll either need a new car or try to save up for a down payment on a house. So many IH temptations

FYI disheveled if it makes any difference on your decision the 170 is one of slimmest fitting IH work shirts I own, tied with my 133. It actually fits more tailored than my 129 western. Great fabric, cool buttons, awesome shirt. Not much more to be said that hasn't already.

Seriously, it's a bad ass shirt. I am considering picking up the western in the fall as well or would that just be silly? Would that be like alphatectz buying doubles of every pair of jeans he gets?

That would put me in a financial hole I wouldnt be able to get out of

I got my 170 yesterday. Ditto everything ickes and scooter have said. The fabric is great. Symmetry of the pockets could be better, but I'm picking nits. The shirt looks great with denim. My other IH shirt is a UHF and I am not able to triple roll the sleeves on that one, but I can do it with this shirt, which is how I like to roll, baby. The fit is pretty good. I got an XXL. I couldn't have gone any smaller at the shoulder, but I'd like the body a bit smaller. That said, its probably an appropriate fit for a work shirt. My dad was a cabinetmaker and furnituremaker for most of the late 70s and 80s and I remember him wearing a shirt in the shop very much like this one. I think once the indigo threads fade a bit, this will be even better looking.

I did a warm (30°C) machine wash, and 40 minute tumble medium. I was looking to lose about a half size. I got just a bit less than that. I'll wear it a few times, and do it again. With any luck, I'll get the little more I'd like. Over time, I think it's going to get there, anyway. I plan on taking the @untucked approach to washing and wearing.

You still have enough room in the shoulders?

It didn't shrink that much. I could lose a touch more, and still be in good shape.
