I have a pair of the Rancourts. They're okay, and comfortable, but kind of caught between Vans/Chucks and Oxfords/Wingtips in that awkward no mans land.

A brown leather seems like it might be the happy medium. I know I like the chromexcel leather. I like the idea of a CP style sneaker but also like the Chucks. Need a style that can pass as a shoe. That can climb a trail or step into a church

bentin which Rancourts do you have? These, which actually look nearly identical to the Natiral Chromexcel's after a few dozen wears.

Decided I'll pick up a pair of the Rancourt Heritage Lows in Natural Chromexcel. And a pair of Converse 70s lows (sorry ickes no high tops, that's what Boots are for . The Rancourts will age like no other sneakers out there.

Well, not quite as well as the Essex, hehe.
And I've been switching back and forth between high and low 70's as our weather vacillates and an surprised how much easier the highs are to take on and pull off than the lows. Also easier to lace to where they won't need to be retightened later.
I'm split about 50/50 between highs and lows but will likely replace my lows with the wildly more comfy Vans Pros slip ons and Chimas as they wear out and keep the highs. Not a fan of Vans highs, but may need to try the Mids.

I didn't mention this before, but I have the Rancourts heritage in the high top (or what they call Mid). They have been my go to pair this winter since we haven't had any snow (that's going to change this weekend with a foot+ coming). Decided that I might as well go with the American made leather and construction (show those Italians how it's done)

Absolutely. I like my Rancourts, just wear the sneakers less than any of my other Rancourts dress shoes or boots.

I do own some Vans high tops but my collection of Vans is probably 90% low.

Yeah, the Vans soles are great for me, but I really need a mid or high for mountain biking and just revert to Five10's which are too ugly for non bike duty. These just look stupid. I've also determined that non Pro Vans are like non 70's Chucks and best avoided. I give in on some Vaults, but still find that my Pros are both more comfortable and hold up better.

I definitely agree that the Pro's are Vans version of the Chuck 70's in terms of upping the comfort level. It's mainly all I will buy now as well unless there's a cool one off color combo or version made that doesn't come in a Pro.
