I need a coat like I need a hole in my head. No kidding. Over the course of this entire, horrible, dreadful winter how many times did I say to myself "damn, I'm rather chilly. I sure wish I owned ANOTHER jacket to keep me warm"? Oh yeah, that's right. ZERO times. But whatever, I don't own a badass duck canvas car coat that I can wax myself and beat the hell out of until it submits to awesomeness. It will be mine..... as soon as you buy one in medium so I can try it on

34 degrees and misty rain in Boston today. Worst. Weather. Ever.
But perfect weather for a waxed canvas coat!

Here's a couple of teaser pics of jackets that Ciano made me. 18oz navy Brando jacket and black 18oz Car Coat. Dispatch is held up because he's waiting for hand made buttons from Japan for the Brando.

I'm so use to buying the standard 4 pocket chore jacket but that Brando..... Is it shorter them the car coat? Is it as short as a type II? (Not a style Iike).

DigDug, I don't have these yet, as Ciano needs the buttons before he can send them both off. He sent me a lot of pics of each and they do look good. The Brando has similar specs to the other short jacket on his site, so about 24.5-25" long compared to the 31" or so of the chore coat, so definitely around Type 2/3 length.

I'm thinking of getting a 18oz lined one (after my 90 day no buy is done) I got a brown one with olive green buttons and stitching and a standard 12oz field hand jacket. They haven't shipped yet. I'm leaving for vacation on Friday so it will be at least a week before I can get pics up

My Car Coat finally arrived after 15 weeks, but it was held up a few weeks due to waiting for the buttons for my Brando jacket, which will get a separate review. Anyway, first impressions of it in the 18oz canvas are favourable. It has an earthy, raw, tough feel to it, like it was made by a human and will stand up to anything. I have two G Chore Coats at 10 and 12oz, but these seem girly and refined in comparison.
I ordered it at 30" back length, down from the standard 31 or 32 of a slim Large, but it came in at 29". As it's a long jacket anyway, I can live with that. I've just heard from Ciano and he says that he measures back length from the top of the shoulder, not the base of the collar like leather jacket companies do. That explains why this came in short, but it's not a problem to me, like I said.
I notice the sleeves are wide at the cuffs, so I buttoned them up one more notch. Another thing I notice is that the shoulders are narrower than other jackets I have, but because I went large on this it's not a problem. The open top pocket is deep enough for a big LG G3 phone, so a good size.
It's nicely finished inside with taped seams and 3 inner pockets. I definitely recommend this jacket if you want something tough, usable and at a good price.

Thanks for posting pictures of the jacket. I hope it gives you long years of service. The body of the jacket looks good but in my opinion the sleeves are cut a bit fuller than what you would hope for a slim fit?

gsg, yeah the sleeves are quite wide, but then a slim Texan is probably equivalent to a large, beefy Scotsman. I had to use the second button on the hem to pull it in. One thing is that it's new out of the box, therefore still stiff and probably wider looking than it will be once it breaks in some and drapes more. Assuming that's possible with this material, which is very similar to the 21oz IH vest I have.

Yeah, I hear you. I am a European living in Houston and yes, I can confirm a "slim-fit" here is a different concept...

just wanted to comment on the jacket
this is a 18oz..and the jacket at first ....is going to be like wearing a tin suit....i promise after prolong wear the jacket will drap and it will fit to your body...
it takes time to break in a heavy weight fabric to your body...give it time and i promise it will be the best jacket you have in your closet... the best part you have a lifetime repair guarantee on all our items ..so if any issues come up in the near future , buttons failures, rips or anything,,,let me know and we will take care of them for you the best we can....

For sure. My 18oz chinos are a serious pair of pants, but with wear, and a few washes, are softening up nicely, and will only get better with time.
