I haven't been posting here much and this is why. The past two years I have been looking for the right car to buy. Needed to be a 67-68 Camaro or a 71-72 Chevelle. I finally found the chevelle I wanted and grabbed it at a good price. tinyurl.com/or4rpzs[/quote] Wow so sweet. Great color too.

Add two cylinders and another pedal and that will be perfect.

Add two cylinders and another pedal and that will be perfect. And two cylinders and another pedal and you have a 40-100k or more car. I have the entire history of it basically the first owner had it for 1.5yrs and traded it in. Second owner had it from 1973-2005 he passed away in 2011. 41k original miles. Original besides maint items like plugs wires alternator cap rotor etc. But all correct items. Drives like a champ. Plus it could be the perfect heavy chevy if someone wanted that bench seat is highly sought after now. SS clones are lame and I'm not sorry I said that at all and will back it up anyday. I feel strongly against that crap. People love SS Ls6 clones...but if some kid but GTR badges on his 350z everyone would call him a ricer etc. Even if he did have a turbo swap etc.

I agree that clones are dumb. But that's a classy, clean ride as is. Nothing an LS7, some modern brakes and a six speed wouldn't make more fun, cleaner and safer though. But cool as shit as is, and probably more valuable unmolested. Play through. I also think Miatas and box vans with an LS7 are cool, so don't read too much into this. I like dumb ideas, this remains one of my favorite resto mods: m.caranddriver.com/features/volga-v-12-coupe

I have a miata and have thought about a LS swap many a day.
If it wasn't so damn original it would get a 454 and a M22 with a 12bolt but it is too damn original.
Don't get me wrong I'm not anti-engine swap or auto to manual swap at all. Very pro-swap. Heck chevy made them that way to accept basically every motor.
I'm anti trying to turn it into something it's not.

Certainly prettier. E46's still look good. Good thing Subaru can engineer shit, cuz they ugly.

Just be glad you got in the Subaru after they had the revelation that the quality of the interior materials is relevant. Not BMW by a stretch, but at least it's all decent to the touch -- and certainly passable for about three-quarters to half the cost.

What you guys said. It's a different car for sure. Not really sure my wife will like it as she LOVED the BMW. I figure we'll go on a 1-2 year test drive. Or until BMW (or someone else) comes out with a small AWD with good visibility (wasn't impressed with what BMW have now, exspecially at 40k+).

So true, I had friends with the old 2.5 RS and bug eyed WRX's and the interiors were awful. The new WRX is so much nicer inside (and also to drive), it's hard to believe it's the same company.

The 3er is now the size of the 5er from the era of your E46. After having an awd BMW, we won't get another. Back to a rwd 328i, just in time for them to release the 330i. The Audi A3/S3 is probably a good fit for you guys, unless a Golf R or Focus RS aren't too juvenile. Also supposedly a new Impreza/WRZ/STI as early as next year.

They're definitely drivers cars, but BMW is regarded in many circles as the top of the drivers car heap. I saw a rumor (announcement?) that they're considering AWD for the next M5, if you're looking to up the budget to near six figures. That's by no stretch a "small car" though.

I did love the look of the E46. Not really a big Subaru fan in the looks department.
Good luck!

Drove the WRX (had ordered it 2 months ago). Had to trade in the BMW, just to much wrong with it and they gave us a good trade as is. The 330xi drove nice and would move when you wanted it to But the WRX seems like it's not happy unless your stepping on the gas. Had to drive 40mph all the way home in traffic. The Good- 15k less then a BMW, it can move, AWD, Great visibility The Bad - look at it, It's not going to win any style awards or age well. And The Ugly- it's an Automatic

It's not horrible looking, just Subaru looking. Funny, the first salesmen we talked to we told him were looking for car with good Visibility. So he took us to a Nissan Juke. So a Subaru looks pretty good.

It's the Wife's car, so it doesn't matter who I am. The WRX was always one of the cars that gets better with a manual. Miatas, wrx, older M3's, older Porsches. I'm not anti-auto I like TH-350's and GTR's. Dying to test drive the 4C.

I'm loving the paddle shift auto in my RC-F. I'm a noob at driving a 470 hp car and don't need to be shifting while trying not to crash. It's also nice to dial back the drive mode and let it putter around in full auto in traffic.

I know the base RC was grossly under powered. Are they actually fast? Also is the RC-F a true automatic or is it an automated manual?

Oh and I truly feel everyone needs to learn how to drive an older RWD manual with good power and no nannies.
Learning to drive a car that wants to kill you is a must.

I drive a 2015 Ford Interceptor and man the new electric steering is horrible. We have had a few warranty replacements and they still suck.
Clunking clicking numb overall horrible.
I hate electric steering and the future of cars. Bring me back oh lord bring me back.

It's a torque converter auto but pretty damn quick on the shifts. 4.5 seconds 0-60, fast in my mind but my 1098 Duc would leave it for dead. I had an S2000 for a couple of years, but have never had a really powerful RWD manual sports car. Overall I'd say it's a great car for a combination of daily commute driving and occasional back road blasting. I've read all the same reviews proclaiming the M4 to be 10x better on the track and the bench racing magazine and blog enthusiasts are piling on. I'd say it's easy to live with, fast enough to make me smile, crazy luxurious and plenty of fun. I may never track it so I don't really care about track performance.
