Do you know any helpful articles, posts I could read on this or other websites/forums? I think heddels.com is good. I've learned a lot from that site.

Thanks to Scooter's advice I ended up getting Samurai 710 19oz unsanforized no wash size 33. Before wearing it, I soaked it knees to hem in warm water for 3 hours and then soaked the whole jeans for 3 hours in cold water. I felt it could still use some shrinking below the knees so I soaked it in warm water again and I guess this is as good as it gets. Waist and upper thighs are perfect size, knees to hem I prefer a bit tighter but I guess this is the 710 cut and I'm happy with how it fits me. I like the deep indigo color it starts with. I will have to wait a few months to see how it will fade. For my first time buying raw unsanforized jeans, I think it turned out great. Thank you for all your advice.

Hi Guys and Gyals,
So i'm a complete N00B on Selvedge Jeans. I already have a hard time finding my size in regular jeans as I wear 36 x 36. I got tired of buying jeans every year after these Levi's tore in the crotch. So I decided to do some research on selvage jeans. Now my budget is on the lower end so I did find Gustin and Bravestar which both make 36 inseam. I ordered from Bravestar and they basically screwed me over after my jeans never made it to me and they never offered to help in any way. That said, are there any other low cost selvedge companies that makes 36 inseam that I could turn to other than these 2 sites that i previously mentioned? Suggestions highly appreciated.
Also, since my first experience was horrible with Bravestar, should I give them another try? ...Event though they took my money and ran.
Thanks!

Thanks! -Dlongz I'm surprised to hear about your bad experience from Bravestar. I own a pair of their chinos and had exceptionally good and responsive service from them thoughout (there's a story in the Bravestar thread from me about it if you're interested). It seems others on this forum have also had good experiences. Do you have more details on how your order was messed up? Did you try emailing Mik? He's usually pretty good at responding to emails.

DigDug Thanks. I will definitely check those out. I just found out about naked and Famous and they look so good. They are more expensive but they are still cheaper compared to some of the $600 jeans i've seen around.

nate001 So yes I was able to speak to him(at least I think it was him) and long story short he said that they shipped it and anything else that happened after that is not their problem. So I spent about a month trying to get through to the USPS but that did not yield results at all. Either way I understand their point of view. I guess he thought I was someone trying to rip him off by trying to get another pair of jeans for free, but he didn't attempt to help me out or anything and that just sucks.

Don't know what to tell you. That sucks. I think you are on to a few good options for lower priced selvedge denim. Gustin, Bravestar (if you're willing to give them another chance) and N&F are good places to start. Poking around on this forum might yield a few more ideas. Good luck. Edit: Oh, one other thing. Is your mail delivery often sketchy? I have a friend who lives in Chicago who estimated he didn't get 15-20% of the mail he should have received (this has improved in recent years apparently).

nate001 My place is an apartment building so I don't even think certain deliveries can come in all the time which is why I sent it to my wifes moms house. They are usually safe. But such is life. Thanks for all the feedback!

They seem alright. I'll check the N&F chat to see what they have to say.

New on the forum. Sick of the intensity and irrationality of the SuFu crowd. I'm done with that.
Just from browsing I see this place has a much more balanced/normal crowd!

Hi Everyone,
A little about myself. I am born and raised in NYC and still live and work here. My family came here and opened up manufacturing for women suits, bathing suits and women's denim. I grew up in the industry and I still enjoy it till this day. I have a passion for denim and outerwear and am about to embark on a new business idea. I have researched the crap out of this denim concept and have pitched it to many people wishing the business and outside of the denim world. They all have the same reaction and want to see it come alive. I now want to pitch out to everyone here and get some honest community feedback. Without this I cannot give you or anyone what you are looking for.
My project. Custom made to measure jeans. Using denim from around the world that have the same values and love for the craft. I am partnering with mills that want to share their passion and transparency in making the denim. Caring for the environment and a green and sustainable way as much as they can. Intern I will be doing the same here on our U.S. soils helping to improve and partner with local manufacturing from NYC to LA. Technology is a huge influence on what I want to do. All web based and no measuring tape required. Just log in and answer a few questions and about yourself and out comes your body specs. From then on my factory and master pattern maker and technician will manage the rest to make sure you get your best fitting premium jean. Just imagine that buying off the rack the return rate of an item is over 50%. With this idea it shows that the return rate has been less than 2%. I can write more but ask me some questions and I will answer them for you.
Thanks everyone.

I've had good luck with their sizing system and don't see why something similar couldn't work with denim. Good luck and let us know when you have a website up and running.

Hey Nate001 - Thank you for your reply. Is there anything from your experience from ratio that could have been better? The make, turn around time, communication, return policy, packaging, presentation? Anything to possibly better serve customers like you. I will be hosting a different mill and writing up about their practices every couple of months and using their denim for my made to measure jeans. I will also be having made to order jeans where I will offer your inseam length. Just picture this jean as a solid tailored fitting 5 pkt without any tricky detailing. I want the customer to experience fit, make, and the quality of the denim. I want them to create their own story, this is why I am only offering rigid jeans either in 100% cotton or a cotton blend for some comfort stretch. Wear to work or were out either way I want the customer to have the option of wearing this to any occasion. Best, Erik www.locknstitchdenim.com(landing page)

Best, Erik www.locknstitchdenim.com(landing page) Don't have too many complaints with Ratio. The construction is excellent. Turn around time is quite good too. I've ordered three shirts from them and they usually arrive within 2-3 weeks from order (I think they typically quote 6 weeks on their site however). I've had to send back a shirt because the pocket pattern didn't quite line up with the rest of the shirt, but they fixed it and sent it back within a couple of weeks. Communication on that and a couple of short questions on other stuff was timely. Not sure of their return policy, but since the shirts are made to order, they do everything they can to fix a shirt before they will refund your money. Packaging and presentation were fine from what I remember, but I don't typically pay too much attention to that. All in all, a good company to pull some ideas from.

My advice to you vintage8 would be to Under Sell and Over Deliver on all aspects of your business. Delivery, product, timing, shipping, etc. For example, if you tell us you'll have a web site up and running by tbe end of the month. It should have products, size charts, style info, etc. A working easy to understand web site that we can use. Not a site that is being built. Otherwise we won't give it much credibility and may not return.
