So I got my J21s (35 straight) yesterday. The leg was almost 36" exactly, but the waist looked like it was a 34 (I think my measurement was 16 and change across the waistband), even though it still felt a little loose. It went right into hot water and then the dryer (because I'm a madman), and I don't think the waist or thigh measurements changed at all, but the leg shrank up to 34-ish. The cuff came in around 8.5", which seems way under spec, but works. Overall, I really like the jeans, but I can't make heads or tails of how this sewed up. They've been sewing the cuff up on the straights pretty consistently under fit guide (which is good, since the fit guide specs make them on par with a boot-cut -- seriously, who has ankles nearly half the size of their waist?). It works out for most people, I think, since you don't end up being accused of being a juggalo. Also, after I wore my 21s for the evening, it's pretty easy to get them to measure about 17", 17.25 if I pull hard, when I was getting 16.5-16.75 pretty consistently before wear. So it was probably a measuring mistake, but it seems they're pretty compliant if you need a little stretch.

The hem on Gustin Straights are IMHO ridiculously large. I made the horrible mistake of buying the loomies in straight cut and there's no water hot enough on the planet to get them to shrink to a non boot cut look. I even hot washed and hot dried them and they're absurdly large.

I also tried the straits, much to wide for my liking. Now I size up one on the slims. Seems like the only Cut/Fit that might be the best of both worlds is the SelfEdge IH-633's. Just can't bring myself to pay $300+ for them.

I got my update on my Japan 21s. Haven't received them but the wait time is nonexistent. He got them last Wednesday and they will be here Thursday. I'll update then on the result.

My Japan 21s were posted February 2 and USPS still has them laying around somewhere in Los Angeles. I really can't wait to get them. Hopefully they arrive when it's still cold enough to wear them.

I got my 21s back from the tailor. Still fits really well. Trying to figure out if I should soak them or just leave them be...hmmmm.
Advise oh great forum?

Admittedly, I find them more interesting once washed once. And the fit is 75% better now for me. Just don't forget to do it inside-out. How about just a warm/hot soak then hang dry? If that doesn't do it, go for the wash/dry. That's what I did. The margin of error is rather slim, so I'd tread carefully...

I'd say it depends on how much play you have in the inseam after hemming. If you can't potentially spare an inch and a half, then you're best off leaving them be. If you're still cuffing them, then give them a cold soak (or wash, or whatever) and go from there.

My J21 arrived last Wednesday. As I had hoped, they came a half size down, if not a little more than that. All measurements were at least .25" less than spec. Most notably, the waist was just shy of 36"(36.5 spec), and the cuff is 17"(18.5 spec). One exception, the front rise is 12"(11.75" spec). My preference is 10.8"- 11.2". Because of the rise, they will be relegated to work wear, which was my original intent, anyway. I generally don't mind a higher rise for my work gear. I may work in a piping trade, but don't care at all for plumbers crack. In addition, as Old26 has attested, the inseams are longer than standard. Although, the right inseam is even .5" longer than the left. I only need 34" inseam. So, the cuffs are a bit large for my taste, and uneven, because of the length difference. Because of the machine washing blunder I had with my IH-666-UHR, I'm currently breaking them in at work. So, I'm going to hot wash and dry these, and get them hemmed before putting them to work.

Just got the J21's. More open weft than the Zim 18's...great lookin' jeans. 34" inseam - on spec , 31.5" waist - bout an inch under spec. I've gained weight/stopped smoking (6 weeks)...I can't wear these right now but should revert to regular weight in a few weeks...little tight but will stretch. Yeah, I dig the fabric, glad I got 'em!

For sanforized, I usually wear them around the house for a day to determine their fit before taking them in for hemming. My tailor usually keeps the inseam just long enough to be able to stack or cuff once. If I cold soak them, they're usually just around the right length. I've cold soaked about half my jeans and only warm soaked my pair of Gustin HA straights that were a bit baggy. The truth is, I've never noticed any real differences between a cold soak vs wearing them raw as long as the fit was good to begin with. For the HAs that I warm soaked, sure they shrunk a bit but within a month of wear, they were back to "dad jeans" baggy again. I guess I like raw's starchiness. My tailor is a Cuban gentleman said, "Those jeans. Good material. Very tough. Don't want to hem another again." I was amused.

Color looks the same. No harm, no foul. Personally, I like wearing my jeans raw for several months before washing. The fades only really show after that first wash.

Not sure where else to post this, but has anyone gotten any of the Gustin sweatshirts? I'm considering the heather grey one which seems like a great deal at $37, but I've never ordered anything from Gustin so I don't really have a frame of reference. Would anyone recommend it or am I better off looking elsewhere?

Taupes in the house. I now have no outstanding orders from G. measurements/pics! Initial fit was spot on for a 34 Straight. They're getting washed now, so I'll have the after measurements when they're done.

I want to punch the TS pocket designer. Eh, I don't notice it much when I wear it, and nobody's made a comment about it, so either it doesn't register or I'm invisible (if only).
