devastitis I hot soaked as hot as my bath faucet would allow and hung it to dry. I barely got any waist shrinking and 1/4 inch (if that) in rise, thigh, knee, and hem. Barely any inseam shrinkage.

Ah, okay. That's good to hear. I think I'll wear these around the house for a week or so to get some stretch before I hot soak them, and send them off. Let me know how Manny does on the hem job.

With so many reporting the 21s coming to spec, I may wind up selling mine..... I'm still holding out hope they come at least a half size down. I'll know for certain, tomorrow. Worst case, soak 'em hot and they'll shrink 1/2 a size. I've never had any denim that did not shrink... I went a full size up, thinking Gustin would be Gustin, and another heavyweight would sew up small. Half size under, I would nuke them the rest of the way. Full size under, perfect. Had I gone 35, and had they sewn up more than a half size down, I would've been struggling. I've about had it, with the Gustin crapshoot.

My 35 Slims sized in on the small side of spec. 35" waist and 22.75" thighs.

Got my J21s today. 37 straight (sized up, because: Gustin). Waist is 18.4, so about what I hoped. First impression pre-soak: these are really soft, if a bit stiff. And the fit is almost perfect. Should be ideal after a hot soak. In my opinion, this is almost certainly the IH flagship or a very good counterfeit. The weft is the same color, weave density is similar (I'm comparing to a pair that I've worn quite a bit, but soaked recently), but they are clearly new and stiff. Ultimately, whether they are IH denim or not, they are a great pair and will probably be one of my favorites after some wear. Pictures for comparison to come.

I cold soaked mine last night because I noticed they were crocking on a pair of Vans. Was sorta bummed to not wear them yesterday since I've basically worn them everyday since I got them.

But this is the oddest pair, fit-wise I've ever had. Not sure how to describe them. I'm soaking them now in hopes that they will somehow change shape. Not bad, just not sure how to assess them yet. Oh, and a really plus - they're long as hell. I can actually cuff this pair. Might turn out to be really cool. Have to see... *Edit: 37" inseam! Awesome.

Hard to believe it's been a year already. even harder to believe that a year long, $1000 fade contest took place without any real fanfare, progress photos posted, number of contestants announced, or even an official declaration of rules. seems like a waste of a perfectly good PR opportunity

When they added all delivered pairs to the contest other than limiting it to the people that funded the contest campaign pairs I realized I really didn't want to mess with it anymore. You can see all the entrants if you search Instagram for the right tag, which is documented somewhere on this board.

BTW, don't know if it's been mentioned, but the 21's are almost black. I guess that's cool. We'll see how they fade though. What I love about the 18's is the electric but dark blue color. These look much better made than the Beasts were. But I will never fault Gustin for the 26's - that was a bitch task for a first foray into super heavy.

The image submission was all done through tags on Instagram, I can look up the tag later today, or if you want to I mentioned it somewhere on the forum, search for gustin fade contest or whatever.

These look much better made than the Beasts were. But I will never fault Gustin for the 26's - that was a bitch task for a first foray into super heavy. You've also washed (or dos wash) the 18s quite a few times, didn't you? I have #1 The Heavy, and they also look black or grey new, but it turns into indigo jeans color with some work -- at least they seem to be. The variation in indigo is pretty amazing, though. The Japanese seem to try to get it as close to black as possible when raw, whereas cone still leans more towards traditional blue jeans color (since they started it, as far as I know). Right now my antiques are a deep shade of navy (with wear-spots going slightly electric), where the heavy mentioned above still look almost grey. With enough washing they all end up a medium blue, from what I've seen, and without washing a lot of Japanese denim photographs like black with blue to white fades. Cone just seems to be more of a blue color from day one than any Japanese indigo I've had. I guess my point is that, if you're not gonna wash them much and want them to always read blue, go Cone. I think I also feel like I've learned that this is why tonal thread doesn't work well with any dark-weft indigo denim, because once they go navy after the first couple washes, they look more like chinos than jeans, and I would never wear dark navy chinos (just don't like the look). This is the only thing that keeps me from beating the crap out of my Japan Royal indigo, they just look to sloppy-formal to wear with anything you would normally wear with jeans, and they can't get beyond that without tons of wear. I'm starting to feel like I have a complex based around navy blue, though. I love blue but just can't stand navy. :/

Haven't heard back from Railcar or CF, but Manny says he can do it. Just waiting on mkeview to see the results.
