Yep, they do look good. Liking them more than I thought I would - the back pockets turned me off at first.

I'm not digging this Ciano Farmer at all. The fit does not look good IMO. the rise seems terribly high and the pockets seems extremely large and long. And the penny buttons??? Not my thing.

I think the jeans are fine and I think the fit has nothing to do with jeans themselves. Long torso, wider hip with short inseams make it so hard to look good in jeans. Thicker denim makes it worse. The only jeans look ok on me is thin material with very taper fit. Btw, Gustin's fit is even worse on me because of the wider legs.

Are you soaking when they come in or waiting? If you wait and get your stretch on, I'd imagine you're fine. I was thinking the same as you but went with the smaller of my choices. I'd prefer not having to soak straight away, but that means I'd need the smaller of the two sizes to get a good fit in the waist. And that means the rise and thighs may be pretty close to jeggings territory. Maybe I just shouldn't worry so much about soaking this particular pair; not as concerned about initial dye loss with the postal bones because they're supposed to be a lighter shade anyway. I have a feeling the answer may be to get the larger of the two sizes and then soak dem sumbitches, but I'll wait to see what CF recommends. Hopefully that'll happen before the Gustin version funds, because that's my backup (and I've got store credit to use up over there).

I think the fit looks pretty good on @wils. I do share your concerns about the back pockets, though. They are definitely on the big side, and I think they're a little low. Move them up an inch or so and they'd be okay. Obviously we disagree on the penny buttons. Which is fine. I mean, you're totally wrong and therefore a bad person, but it's fine. Honestly, if it wasn't for the penny buttons option, I would just back the Gustins because I know I'll like the fit and the prices are comparable. I wouldn't get the pennies on most denims, but I think they'll look dope with the more antique blue of the postal bone fabric.

Wearing them today and the chain stitch and selvedge run off are pretty interesting details too.

@wils; actually I take that back. On second thought the fit actually looks good. I think it's just those large pockets that throw it off? Don't the back pockets seem too large wils?

Yeah, those back pockets are larger than normal. Doesn't bother me since I don't see them.... = ) About the fit, my body shape is not the most ideal for jeans. Just try to find the best one that doesn't flat out look bad.

@wils; no man, I think the fit looks good on you..really. It's just the huge back pockets throw it all off, at least it did for me.

I am 5'10" with actual waist 32" and inseam 30". Huh. That doesn't seem like a particularly unusual build. I'd think more jeans manufacturers would have something that works well for you. Anyway, I wonder if CF is using the same pattern template for the back pockets across all their jeans. If so, that could explain a few things. If you take pockets that look appropriately scaled for somebody Old26's size and stick 'em on a pair of jeans that are cut for someone who's like 5'6" and a buck-fifty dripping wet, they're going to look out of proportion. Extreme example obviously, but you know what I mean?

Yeah. If you have not gotten your jeans, Ciano may be able to do something to the back pockets for you.

Yeah. If you have not gotten your jeans, Ciano may be able to do something to the back pockets for you. I haven't even ordered yet. FWIW, Ciano got back to me with some feedback on my sizing questions already. As you hinted at yesterday, it seems that the fit guides have indeed been updated since the KS campaign. He sent me the revised one for the 905 Regular fit. I asked if he could send me the 901 Slim as well so I could post them up here, and I gave him the link to this thread so he can drop by himself if he has the time and inclination. We'll see.

Yeah, sorry, thought you'd been using those.
I emailed them today about the rear pockets and they're going to send me pics of what they'd look like on the size I ordered and are willing to shrink the pocket if I'd like.

I've ordered a pair of the herringbones. Ciano was really helpful on the sizing stuff, and they're basically making me a bespoke pair at no extra charge! So, yeah, definitely looking forward to checking out the finished product.

hello everyone Matt invited me to the forum..little nervous...please be gentle with me since this is my first time to participate on any forum.
as for the back pockets...we can adjust the size if you like. Just give us the measurements and we will make the size you like.
The reason why we have the size now is that we original made the jeans for the Cotton Farmers here in Beasley Texas. They needed a pocket to fit gloves and channels locks in. We based the pocket off the Levi's pocket and adjusted it a little to fit the items the Farmers needed.
So the pockets are truly functional for our local Farmers...
If you buy the regular finish denim, [ flat fell seam. etc ] you will even notice the center back twill tape on the seam of our jeans. The Farmers [ Cotton, Milo, Corn,,etc} here tend to rip the back seams alot and we reinforced the back seam to prevent that.
So we try to make a truly functional jean for Farmers that will last a lifetime, and try to give an essence of vintage by make them with the vintage American machines and vintage tailor methods.
The local Farmers hate the Tailor Finish inside the jeans..They say it is to fancy to work in...HA!. but they like the vintage penny button and zipper fly......
Matt thanks for the invite ...please let me know if you have any question. I will be glad to answer them for you.
and as for the vintage pennies.....you do have the option to have regular copper shank buttons...we just made a pair of jeans with Silver dimes a customer wanted...
Cheers

Matt thanks for the invite ...please let me know if you have any question. I will be glad to answer them for you. Thanks for dropping by. And thanks for the "inside baseball" stuff regarding some of your construction details. At a certain level, jeans are jeans are jeans, so I enjoy learning the thought process behind some of the little design decisions that make a certain pair stand out.

cianofarmer; Welcome and glad you could join us! It's great to have you here to provide your insight and reasoning behind the designs of your products (the back pockets for example). I don't prefer pockets that large but it is good to hear your explanation and reasoning for that and to know that they are designed that way for a purpose, that is really cool....I had no idea. Feel free to hang around and post as much as you want, we welcome you here and we will be gentle
