THe order of all that is all out of whack. Some get sped up because they just stay the course and some get bumped back because we pull them . some get pushed back because maybe we need more fabric. It can be a million things that would have an order arrive sooner or later. Sometimes we can mess up an order so we will make it again. I saw this happen this past trip. The item had a stain on it. We had to remake it which means a that order is now a loss. I am sure Gustin would send a email saying the order didnt meet quality control and give a store credit but we are trying our best to make everyone happy This is great to hear, and I'm sure there will be continual improvements...but in the case you just listed I'm curious if the re-do of the stained order got bumped back significantly in the queue. If so, once old site and KS orders are cleared and processes can be streamlined it will be beneficial for you and the customer to send notification when something like that takes place. It lets the customer know you're on top of it, not sending sub-par pieces, and smooths over some of the potential concerns over wait time (especially if they get bumped). It def gets bumped back but not like you think. We have a spot where customers wanted something fixed like the waist stretched or the thigh bumped. We put things like that in that pile. Those orders will get made on their own and not put back in line. Sometimes they are made within days but sometimes they may sit for a few weeks before done. Either way they are done sooner than just putting the order back in line

Either way they are done sooner than just putting the order back in line I'm not questioning that logic, just that it would be good form at some point down the line if the customer was notified when that happened (especially if it was because you're taking a step to improve the quality of the garment).

When the new orders (new site)are done that will happen but with the old system we just do not have the tools to do it. That new site has all the makings of something great

Yeah, communication and transparency would go a long way in alleviating doubts, fears and impatience.

Ok, so the two swatches look completely different for the Japan Union Blues on the Gustin and Lawless website. matt, Dirty_Denim, which one is more accurate? If they are indeed more like the color shown on the LD website I am not interested and I will cancel my Gustin order.

[asshole]Every shot of indigo denim on LD looks black to me on my iPhone and computer. Is it possible that in the sun it looks like the Gustin pics? For the G denim I own, including some that looks black on the LD site, it all looks nearly identical to the G photos. [/asshole]
Or it's really just a different material with a very similar selvedge. Of all the things G does a little sideways, I haven't seen many/any examples of them misrepresenting denim colors.

I will give credit where it's due - Gustin has vastly improved the consistency of their photography. For example, look at all the campaigns of denim (past campaigns) and note the how much the color changes in the piece of wood that the swatch samples were taken. It's an old discussion from the G forum that was discussed to help G improve their images, which they've done quite well.
I know personally that the original sale of the Heather Greys were presented much darker than their current pics (which are very true to the fabric). They almost looked like the graphite grey originally, which is what spurred me to back them, but receiving them and seeing denim that looks like what is posted now, I felt like they needed to reshoot those. Glad to see they did.
Both companies have taken significant steps to improve their photography - natural light, a good camera, and points of comparison seem to be the most logical ingredients.

Nah, I think it is a fair shot and LD needs better photos for customers to make more inform decisions. G was not great back in the days but I believe they have improved their photos lately. I still remember the members were trying to find photos somewhere else to see the more accurate colors of the G's fabric.

I believe it is the same exact fabric. They use the word "Course" which explains my mention of it being very rigid. It has an extreme rigidness against the grain/weave but it is not that light. Maybe in sun it is but sun will do that to anything. I know we do not have the best photo's up but that is not why I said its darker IRL. Just giving you guys an in with the fabric. We dont even have it for jeans so worth buying from Gustin if you want something that has a clean selvedge id and a good color denim

So this kind of made me chuckle "Only the second time we've run this classic black selvedge denim. It's the perfect compliment to your indigo collection and we're happy to bring it back at an even better value than before. " www.weargustin.com/store/1344Is Lawless causing them to be a little more aggressive on price?

" www.weargustin.com/store/1344Is Lawless causing them to be a little more aggressive on price? My belief is a lot of early Gustin customers were not denim heads but after a year and half and thanks to the Gustin forum and Reddit, those early customers are now graduating and know a lot more about the pros and cons of similar products from different vendors in various models (KS, B&M, eCommerce and so on). I think the key differentiation factors of early Gustin success were the "special/limited" fabric selections and value/price. When you look at the Gustin's competitive landscape today, other companies are definitely closing up the gap. I think us (consumers) are already seeing positive effects on open market competitions and vendors are lowing their profit margins and overheads to get to a lower price point. End of day, it is great for us and many should really thanks Gustin to open up that channel for everybody.

I disagree @wils. I don't think it has anything to do with the fact the we are graduating in our knowledge of denim. I just think it's simply the fact that there is a new direct competitor in town and Gustin is now adjusting to that. Before Lawless there really wasn't a direct competitor to them that I was aware of, unless you count Unbranded, but I don't think they are as much of a direct competitor as Lawless is.
What I'm saying is that I don't think it's the fact that we are now more educated and aware of competitors to Gustin, I think it's the fact that in the beginning there were no real direct competitors to them to be aware of and now there is.

This seems to me, more of an exception than the norm. In general, I find the prices at Gustin increasing. Between LD, Ciano and a few other new players, Gustin still holds a substantial chunk of that market. They are diversifying their product line and charge a premium for a lot of the things that, in my opinion, are not that exclusive - both in terms of quality and price but still, most of it gets backed anyway. Their marketing and presentation are an order of magnitude above the rest and I can see why anyone new to the denim game would be quickly attracted to G than the rest of the players. Eventually, I see an increased direct competition, which is good for the consumers (better price, more selection) and the companies ( better QC, fabrics and innovation).

I am definitely not disagreeing with your points and I believe Lawless/Ciano are definitely having impacted to Gustin's decision to lower the price and to move the focus away from jeans. Based on the posts from here, Reddit and the old Gustin's forum that I saw, I just feel there are many brands (TS, IH, RT and so on) being introduced to members. People are now more educated about the pros and cons of each brands and they are looking beyond the KS companies before making their purchase decisions.

Not really exception vs. norm. It is just supply and demand. Gustin can still charge a premium on "button down" shirts because its competitions are all in the similar or slightly higher price range. If a vendor come in to disrupt the pricing of the button down shirt familiar to what Lawless does to jeans, you will see Gustin behave differently on its pricing.
